Dog Training Methodology

Methods:

  • Balanced Training

Equipment:

  • E-Collars

In-home private lessons put the owner in the driver’s seat, with hands-on coaching for obedience, puppies, and milder behavior issues. Day training has the trainer working your dog during the day in real environments, then transferring the skills back to you. Home School keeps the dog at home while a trainer comes in to work with them one-on-one, which suits puppies, in-home manners, and separation anxiety.

Board and train runs in four tracks: Basic Obedience for dogs six months and up (3 to 5 weeks), Puppy Jumpstart for 2 to 6 month olds (4 to 6 weeks), Behavior Modification for aggression, reactivity, fear and severe behavior cases, and Adventure Dog. Custom hybrid packages blend private lessons, virtual lessons, day trains and boarding nights across four tiers, from Essential Foundations to the Complete Freedom Program.

Also offered: e-collar and off-leash training, service dog work alongside partner trainers, rotating group classes and workshops including CGC prep and Rally obedience, AKC title testing, and the Household Harmony System for multi-dog homes dealing with ongoing conflict.

Policies

Every prospective client starts with either a free phone consultation or a paid in-home consultation before training begins, so both sides can confirm the fit, align on goals, and build a plan around the dog and the household.

Travel fees apply outside the immediate Chelmsford area and can be reduced or waived by meeting at an approved location nearby, booking when Sarah is already scheduled in your area, or grouping several clients into one trip. Boarding is offered to training clients only.

When the behavior caseload is full, puppy and basic obedience inquiries are referred out to trainers in the Brighter Days network rather than left waiting for weeks.

Testimonials

It is not an exaggeration to say that working with Sarah was life-changing. I had already been working hard on training with my reactive pit mix, but we hit a ceiling with progress in training classes and knew we needed 1:1 help for her pulling and excitement (sometimes aggression) on walks. Sarah knew what would motivate my dog, and we incorporated play-based tools. She helped us learn how to communicate better, and I no longer feel a sense of dread when another dog is approaching on a walk.
– Carolyn Arnold

Sarah’s guidance and training with our dog Clyde was life-changing, with results better than we ever imagined. Our 6 yr old dog had some pretty severe aggression issues with resource guarding. We had gone to multiple other dog trainers over the years for obedience training and later to address the aggression issues, but saw no improvement. Sarah made significant progress with our dog in just the first session.
– Kate Oram

I can’t recommend Sarah enough! In just two sessions, she completely changed our walks. Before working with her, walking both of my dogs together felt impossible. Now I can confidently walk them side by side without the chaos. The biggest surprise was being able to take them to a brewery and have them stay calm without reacting to everything around them.
– Debbie Collins

I can’t say enough good things about Sarah. She seems to speak fluent dog, and thankfully, she translates for the rest of us. My dog, Garbanzo, is equal parts lovable and impulsive, and Sarah has been an absolute game changer for both of us. Her private lessons gave me a whole new understanding of how my dog’s brain works, and the progress we’ve made has been incredible.
– Rachel Lowy

If you have an aggressive or reactive dog, Sarah can help! She works with your dog’s natural instincts instead of against them. My dog used to be anxious and now we can play in a way that makes him happy and confident.
– Grace Haugh

About the Trainer

Brighter Days Dog Training is a behavior-focused training company based in Chelmsford, Massachusetts, owned and run by trainer Sarah Balboni. The work is built around real-world reliability: a dog you can actually bring onto a brewery patio, up a hiking trail, or down a busy sidewalk without the outing turning into a fight.

Sarah’s specialty is complex behavior. She works primarily with reactivity and aggression, both human- and dog-directed, and regularly takes referrals from other trainers for dogs with extensive bite histories or dogs that have failed previous training. A large share of her caseload is remediation: unwinding earlier training that left a dog shut down, conflicted, or unstable, and rebuilding clear communication in its place.

Her approach leans on the dog’s own drives. She trains in play and engagement rather than suppression, describing her philosophy as biological fulfillment, preserving the dog’s spirit instead of producing compliance. She also collaborates with owners and veterinary teams when behavioral medication is part of the picture.

Programs run from in-home private lessons and day training to home-school visits and multi-week board and train, plus off-leash and e-collar work, AKC Canine Good Citizen title testing, and group classes co-hosted with trainers in her referral network. Chelmsford and the towns within about twenty minutes carry no travel fee; Sarah also travels through Middlesex County, the North Shore, Greater Boston on weekends, and southern New Hampshire.

Accomplishments

Brighter Days Dog Training holds a 5.0 rating from 15 Google reviews.

Sarah is a member of the International Association of Canine Professionals, which she points to as a commitment to continuing education and professional standards in an industry that is not heavily regulated.

She takes referrals from other trainers for cases requiring a higher level of behavioral intervention, and is often the last intervention before a dog is surrendered or euthanized. Brighter Days also runs official AKC title testing for Canine Good Citizen (CGC), Community Canine (CGCA) and Urban CGC (CGCU), and will evaluate dogs trained elsewhere.

How to Get Started!

Start with the free phone consultation. Call (978) 351-9052 or book a time through the online scheduler. Every new client goes through a consultation first, so the program can be matched to your dog, your goals and your budget before anything is booked.

If you want a full behavior assessment and a written plan up front, book the $205 in-home consultation instead. Weekend appointments in Greater Boston are limited and fill quickly, so book early if that is where you are.
