Testimonials
“David Kabler has changed my life forever. A few months of training with him and I can now walk my dogs off leash with other dogs and people passing by. I can relax with my family on the beach and not worry about them taking off… Please do it for yourself. It is so worth it.”
– Lucie
“We want to let you know how pleased we continue to be with the results of Isaac’s training. We have been on hikes with him, and he no longer strains at the leash and he sits when other hikers and dogs go by! We can walk on our road with Isaac on a slack leash. We have had compliments from house guests and neighbors on his improved behavior.”
– Doug and Pat
“David’s training is straightforward, easy to do and unbelievably effective. He is patient and encouraging. From David, I learned that I need to command my dog’s respect and I have the skills now to do that.”
– Grace
“After enrolling my dog Holly in your private dog training program, we have seen significant changes in her personality… She has learned to obey commands and wants to please me. I would recommend your training classes to anyone.”
– Vicki
About the Trainer
Kabler School For Dogs has trained dogs and their owners in Asheville since 1995, offering private obedience courses, puppy preschool, and residency board and train programs. Founder David Kabler Jr. leads a team of trainers who work with dogs of every age, from spirited puppies to dogs working through serious behavior problems.
Every course starts with a free evaluation at the Asheville training campus, where trainers assess a dog’s temperament, history, and any behavioral issues before building a plan. Training begins in a low-distraction setting on campus, then moves to local parks and real-world outings as the dog’s skills and confidence grow. Dogs enrolled in private courses can join invitation-only group walks and socials once they’re ready for more distraction.
The school works on on-leash and off-leash obedience, recall, and problem behaviors such as leash pulling, reactivity, and barking. Puppy Preschool combines four private sessions with four group puppy socials to cover socialization, handling, and foundational manners. The Residency Board and Train program gives dogs daily one-on-one training, walks, field trips, and household manners practice while staying on-site.
David Kabler Jr. is a certified Master Trainer and graduate of the National K9 School For Dog Trainers, and his staff includes trainers certified through Animal Behavior College with additional service dog training credentials. The team blends traditional and positive, reward-based methods to tailor each program to the individual dog, and the school also runs seasonal K9 swim and dock diving courses at its Asheville campus.
