Policies

New clients submit an application, complete a phone interview, and put down a 10 percent deposit to schedule, then send vet records ahead of drop-off. Board and train clients pick an e-collar color before their dog arrives and receive Monday and Friday updates during the program, followed by a go-home lesson at pickup. Dogs are supervised on-site during the day, with cameras and alarms in place overnight rather than live overnight staff.

Every program client receives unlimited private lessons for the lifetime of their dog at no additional cost.

Milligan Valley K9 Academy is a board-and-train dog training facility in Minerva, Ohio, run by owner and head trainer Whitney Whitacre along with her family and kennel staff. They work with dogs of all breeds and sizes, from Chihuahuas to Cane Corsos, and take in dogs from Minerva and the surrounding area as well as clients who travel from out of state for their programs.

Dogs live on-site during training, and the Whitacre family and staff are present on the property throughout the day for continuous supervision. Training uses a balanced approach that blends positive reinforcement, clear rules, and the responsible use of an e-collar, moving through obedience, real-world proofing, and household manners.

Programs include a four-week General Board and Train for foundational obedience and family manners, the Everywhere Dog Program which adds real-world proofing in parks, stores, and downtown areas, and a six-week Behavior Modification program for dogs dealing with anxiety, reactivity, or aggression, including dog-on-dog aggression. Puppy training is available as private lessons or as free early sessions for owners who have booked a board and train spot, and Owner Shadow and Trainer Shadow programs let owners or aspiring trainers work hands-on alongside Whitney over several days.

Every board and train client gets a detailed go-home session and unlimited private lessons for the lifetime of their dog at no extra charge, so support continues well after the program ends. The academy also partners with Cane Corso breeder Tony Scandy of Scandifio Cane Corso to offer pre-trained Corso puppies with customizable training packages and ground shipping across the U.S.
