Resident Board & Train is the core program: a minimum 21-day stay, with most dogs finishing between 21 and 30 days. Training continues past that at no extra cost if a dog needs more time. Dogs learn sit, down, place, here, heel, inside/outside, kennel, load up, get busy, drop it, leave it, off, enough, and quiet, working toward reliable off-leash obedience. The same program addresses severe leash pulling, jumping on people and furniture, counter surfing, trash raiding, digging, excessive barking, fence patrolling, food and resource guarding, dog aggression, nipping, chasing, destructive behavior, begging, and running off.

Puppy Headstart 101 shapes housebreaking, puppy biting, social behavior, destructive habits, desensitization, and manners early. Informal work starts young through play; formal obedience generally begins after 20 weeks, and the Resident Board & Train opens to pups 6 months and older.

Vacation boarding is offered to graduates of the resident program only, and functions as a refresher stay rather than a standard kennel.

West Texas Dog Trainer LLC is a one-trainer operation in Weatherford, Texas, run by owner and lead trainer Dan Kaase. Dan spent 30 years in law enforcement and devoted the latter part of that career to developing, training, and deploying working dogs for law enforcement and fire detection at the state, local, and federal levels. He brings that same standard to family dogs.

Training happens at a fully enclosed, climate-controlled 3,000-square-foot facility built specifically for dogs, with kennels held at a steady 69 degrees year-round so training continues in any weather. Dan is the only person who works with your dog, and every plan is built around that dog’s temperament, learning style, and pace rather than a franchise template.

Programs cover on- and off-leash obedience, puppy head start, resource guarding, behavior modification, canine socialization, and anxiety rehabilitation. Dogs also train in real settings – restaurants, stores, parks, trails, public events, and daily walks – around unfamiliar people, dogs, vehicles, and power equipment, so the behavior holds up outside the training yard.

Owners are part of the program. Every dog goes home with a one-on-one send-home lesson covering the commands, the techniques, and the equipment, plus lifetime support for as long as you own the dog.

Accomplishments

Dan Kaase spent 30 years in law enforcement, devoting the latter part of that career to developing, training, and deploying working dogs for law enforcement and fire detection at the state, local, and federal levels. His work included partnerships with the ATF, the United States Military, the United States Secret Service, the United States Marshals Service, the TSA, Blackwater, and other agencies worldwide.

As an adjunct canine trainer for the ATF, he helped develop and train canines specializing in explosives and explosives-component detection and advanced obedience, and he organized and led large-scale multi-agency training programs covering odor recognition testing, mass casualty simulation events, and advanced canine medical training for military, law enforcement, and fire agencies.

His certifications include the Advanced Skills Trainer Obedience Course, the E-Touch Course, and the Train the Trainer program from the Martin Deeley International School for Dog Trainers, along with the ATF Adjunct Trainer Course, which runs over 650 hours of advanced canine and student training. He is an active member of the International Association of Canine Professionals and is endorsed by the DFW Labrador Retriever Rescue Club as a canine evaluator and trainer.
