K9 Academics

Training is organized into private, one-on-one programs. Puppy Headstart is for puppies up to four months and focuses on socialization, crate and household routines, biting and jumping, leash foundations, confidence, and owner handling skills.

Elementary is the comprehensive foundational program for dogs of any age, covering obedience and communication, leash pulling, recall around distractions, calm household manners, and common concerns such as barking, jumping, and overexcitement. Advanced Training, called Upper Education, continues into higher-distraction reliability, public behavior, and off-leash foundations for service, competition, and working dogs.

Each of these runs six private sessions of roughly one hour.

A single Orientation session is available for owners who want an evaluation, help with one specific concern, or a training plan before committing to a program. Elective and Specialty sessions add trick training, hiking and camping preparation, running, biking and canicross, nose work, shed finding, tracking foundations, search and rescue mentorship, carting, and fitness and agility work. Ongoing Training is available to graduates of the Elementary and Advanced programs for continued practice and support.

The first sessions take place in the client’s home, and later sessions move into parks, stores, and other real-world environments as the dog is ready.

Pricing Summary

Puppy Headstart, Elementary, and Advanced Training are each $600 for six private sessions of about one hour, with payment options available. A single Orientation or new-client private session is $125.

Elective and Specialty sessions are $100 each. Ongoing Training for past Elementary and Advanced clients is $90 for one pre-scheduled session per month, $170 for two sessions per month, or $500 for six sessions scheduled over three months, with flexible as-needed scheduling at $100 per session.

Policies

Training is private only; K9 Academics does not offer group classes. Elective and Specialty sessions require reliable foundational obedience and are offered to established clients. Ongoing Training is available to owners who have completed the Elementary or Advanced programs, with sessions scheduled in advance and flexible as-needed scheduling based on availability.

K9 Academics is a private, in-home dog training business owned and operated by Robin Anderson, a professional trainer with more than 40 years of experience and an M.A. in Psychology applied to dog behavior. Every session is one-on-one, with no group classes, and training is built around the individual dog, the household, and the goals the owner actually needs met.

Sessions begin in the client’s home and, as the dog progresses, move into parks, stores, public spaces, and other real-world environments appropriate to the dog’s confidence and goals. Programs cover early puppy development, foundational obedience and manners, leash skills and recall around distractions, calm household behavior, confidence building for anxious or overstimulated dogs, and common concerns such as barking, jumping, and house training. Advanced work is available for service, competition, and working dogs, alongside elective sessions in tricks, nose work, tracking, shed finding, carting, canicross, and fitness and agility foundations.

Robin’s background includes service as a certified Search and Rescue dog handler, evaluator, SAR manager, and rescue leader in Colorado, a B.A. in Emergency and Disaster Management, and service as an Army Military Police veteran. The emphasis throughout is on clear communication, owner education, and behavior that holds up in everyday life rather than only in a controlled setting.

Accomplishments

Robin Anderson brings more than 40 years of professional dog training experience, along with an M.A. in Psychology applied to dog behavior and a B.A. in Emergency and Disaster Management. She has served as a certified Search and Rescue dog handler, evaluator, SAR manager, and rescue leader in Colorado, and is an Army Military Police veteran. Her experience spans puppies through advanced real-world training, including service, therapy, competition, and working dogs.
