About the Trainer
A Promised Friend LLC, led by trainer Carol Humberger, offers personalized dog training services focused on building a strong, trusting relationship between dogs and their owners. Carol emphasizes leadership and communication over mere command obedience, helping dogs become calm, respectful, and loving family members. Training is available in-person at their rural Oregon, Ohio facility, in clients’ homes, or via phone and video sessions. Carol has over 25 years of experience working with rescued and problem dogs, including aggressive, fearful, and unhousetrained cases, and specializes in making training practical for everyday life. She offers group classes, private sessions, and board-and-train options, with a holistic approach that considers the dog’s emotional well-being. Carol is an AKC Canine Good Citizen evaluator and has volunteered with local rescues and schools to promote dog safety and responsible ownership.
The business prioritizes real-world behavior over show-ring tricks, teaching owners how to guide their dogs naturally through daily interactions. Carol’s method combines positive reinforcement with leadership principles, avoiding harsh tools and excessive exercise. She also provides lifelong support and offers a free phone consultation to assess needs before committing to training.
Additional services include evaluations, behavior modification for issues like reactivity and separation anxiety, and preparation for AKC CGC or therapy dog certification. Carol’s facility is climate-controlled and accommodates dogs of all sizes and ages, with strict policies against fleas and dogs in heat. She also supports pet adoption and rescues, having taken in over a dozen dogs and other animals herself.
