About the Trainer
All Star Dog Training is a dog training business based in Sacramento, led by owner and head trainer Leah Ruiz, who has been training dogs since founding the business in 2000. Leah has over four years of apprenticeship under a local trainer and additional experience working with horses, wildlife, dog daycares, and kennels. The team offers group obedience and agility classes at Howe Community Park, as well as private in-home sessions. They specialize in teaching owners how to train their dogs using positive, reward-based methods without prong, choke, or shock collars. They cover topics like nutrition, leadership, housebreaking, barking, digging, and spaying/neutering effects. All Star Dog Training also provides free lessons and discounts for foster and rescue parents, including one free lesson per foster dog and a $10 class discount. They offer ongoing agility classes that allow clients to join at any time, and a 4-week specialized class for $125 with a $20 one-time evaluation.
The business emphasizes building a strong human-dog relationship through hands-on owner training, with instructors occasionally demonstrating techniques when needed. They work with all breeds and issues, including aggression cases, and support dogs of all ages from puppies to seniors.
All Star Dog Training also provides a Sacramento Canine Placement Assistance & Pet Resource Guide to help owners find resources for adopted or rescued dogs.
Accomplishments
Leah Ruiz apprenticed for four years with an established local dog trainer before founding All Star Dog Training in 2000. She has over three additional years of full-time training experience prior to founding the business.
