Testimonials

Signed up for puppy kindergarten taking place at the national guard building. The older woman teaching the class was asking us to physically force our dog to sit, suggested the use of choke collars on puppies, and had absolutely no care or consideration for their comfort in the slightest. It was brutal and scary for both me and our dog. The only positive was that she gave our money back.

This was a very bad experience. I signed up for the puppy class and the woman started off by telling us how to use choke chains. On puppies. She held a dog’s muzzle closed when it was barking. It was held in a loud gymnasium, and all the different classes were separated by flimsy fencing. I got a refund and will be searching for a different obedience class.

Just finished puppy training class. The trainer Brittany was great! She had great tips and brought her dogs in to demo tricks.

About the Trainer

The Anderson Obedience Training Club, Inc. (AOTC) is a nonprofit dog training organization founded in 1944 and reincorporated in 1955, offering group obedience and scent work classes for dogs of all breeds and mixed breeds. Classes are held Tuesday evenings at the Indiana National Guard Armory in Anderson, Indiana, and include Puppy Kindergarten (for dogs 5 months and under), Beginner Basic Obedience/Canine Good Citizen (for dogs 5 months and older), Novice, Open, Utility, Rally, and Scent Work. The club promotes responsible dog ownership and is an American Kennel Club (AKC) Member Club, offering AKC-sanctioned training and testing programs. Classes are structured in 5-week sessions with clear progression paths from beginner to advanced levels. Junior Handlers under 16 may participate with adult supervision. The club provides downloadable enrollment forms and requires current vaccination records for all dogs.

AOTC emphasizes AKC-certified training methods and offers opportunities for dogs to earn titles such as CD, CDX, and CGC. The facility includes multiple training rings and areas for both obedience and scent work. While some reviews criticize the use of choke collars and force-based techniques, others praise specific trainers like Brittany for positive, demo-based instruction.

The club also supports community involvement through obedience trials, matches, and events, and has a long-standing history of collaboration with AKC judges and members since the 1970s.
