Backwoods Retriever Training, founded by Garrett Meier, specializes in training hunting retrievers for waterfowl and upland hunting, as well as offering obedience training for large breed dogs. The facility is located on a 14-acre property featuring flooded timber, technical ponds, decoys, and simulated hunting environments to provide realistic training conditions. They train up to 16 dogs at a time to ensure individualized attention, focusing on maximizing each dog’s potential through customized techniques. Training begins as early as 4 months of age and includes force fetching, blind retrieves, handling drills, and obedience commands. Owners are encouraged to participate in training sessions to strengthen the bond with their dogs. At the end of each day, dogs are given time to play and socialize, promoting mental and physical well-being.
