Big Valley Dog Training offers a progressive curriculum starting with Basic Obedience, followed by Intermediate and advanced competitive training. The Basic Obedience class is designed to build foundational skills and culminates in an off-leash exam. Graduates often continue to Intermediate classes, with some pursuing competitive dog sports like IGP. Training is structured around weekly group sessions held at the facility, with emphasis on owner education and consistent practice at home.

Big Valley Dog Training (BVDT) is a locally owned dog training school founded by Joel Monroe, a former teacher and experienced dog sport competitor with over 30 years of hands-on experience. BVDT offers personalized training programs designed to help dog owners build a confident, off-leash relationship with their dogs through clear communication and proven methods. The school focuses on educating owners as much as training dogs, with a motto of “8 weeks from chaos to control.” Programs are tailored to all breeds, sizes, ages, and temperaments—from puppies to seniors—and include obedience, puppy classes, personal protection training, and competitive dog sports like IGP. BVDT’s facility-based classes foster a welcoming, supportive environment where owners and dogs learn together.
Joel’s proprietary curriculum blends his background in education with decades of dog sport expertise, emphasizing lasting behavior change through consistent, humane techniques.
