Testimonials
“My dog, Finn, and I have worked with Cindy for six months and look forward to continuing training with her. Finn loves agility but has some behavior problems around other dogs and people he does not know. He barks and is fearful and needed to learn better self-control in certain settings. Cindy gave me strategies to help him with these issues. Cindy trains with compassion & positive reinforcement, she is organized, and her classes flow well. She ensures that dogs are kept engaged, and she is sensitive to the timing of dogs’ attention spans. My dog’s tail is always wagging when he is with Cindy. I have had three challenging dogs in my years of dog ownership, and I believe Cindy is one of the best dog trainers with whom I have worked. I cannot recommend her more highly.”
– Liz & Finn
“Prior to working with Cindy, we couldn’t even take our dog out for a simple walk in the neighborhood. When Fletcher saw a dog, he barked intensely, pulled on his leash, and lunged at the other dog. He completely ignored us! Finally, we became so frustrated that we just stopped going for walks with him. We knew that we needed help! Cindy provided positive training methods that worked. With her guidance, she helped us teach Fletcher how to walk nicely, come when called, and focus on us, at home or on-the-go. We can now go places and not have to worry about him misbehaving. We are so grateful that we met Cindy and can’t recommend her highly enough for your training needs. We really could tell that Cindy loves what she does and has an interest in both dogs and people. She is absolutely amazing!”
– Allison, Dave & Fletcher
“My dog Annie (Golden Retriever) and I took an obedience class instructed by Cindy. She provided detailed lessons with hands-on instruction, comprehensive illustrated handouts, and was very responsive to my emails and text inquiries. Also, she happily offered to spend additional time outside of class to help me with any dog training issues. She has a genuine interest in both dogs and their owners. Without her help and training advice, my dog would be in charge, and life would be so stressful. Cindy’s time and efforts have certainly made a positive difference in our household. She is a HUGE asset to the dog training profession. Thank you Cindy!”

About the Trainer
Black Dog Training LLC is a dog training business dedicated to helping owners and dogs establish lifelong bonds through effective and compassionate training services. Their mission emphasizes responsive customer service and a commitment to providing effective solutions for dog training needs.
The business is owned and led by Cindy Hanisch, an experienced trainer who began at age 11 and has earned AKC titles in obedience, rally, and agility with her own dogs. She has coached dogs and owners for over 11 years, working with various breeds and ages, from 7 weeks to 13 years, addressing a wide range of personalities and struggles.
Cindy’s training philosophy uses a positive reward-based method combined with creative problem-solving, focusing on the belief that both humans and canines should enjoy the process and that training is a lifelong commitment. Black Dog Training offers group classes and individualized training, with small class sizes (3-7 dogs) to ensure personal attention. They provide hands-on demonstrations and illustrated handouts.
The business is named in honor of Cindy’s cockapoo, Chester, who is an active participant in classes along with his brother Baxter (Border Collie), assisting in obedience and agility demonstrations. Black Dog Training aims to help people and their dogs form rewarding and long-lasting connections, teaching new methods to understand, communicate with, and appreciate their pets. They believe play is essential for happiness and integrate it into learning, making training a delight rather than a chore.
