“Rocky and I took 2nd place at the Bird Dog Challenge Western Nationals. It will be televised in January 2009. The shot is titled Tournament Hunter on the Outdoor Channel. Their Web site is Birddogchallenge.com. You had to get 5 birds in 15 minutes. We got 5 birds in 10 minutes 55 seconds, no missed shots, 5 points and 5 retrieves. It was close. 1st place had 260 pts. we had 258 pts. and 3rd was a tie with 256 pts. each. I am also attaching some pictures.”

“First I have to THANK YOU!!!! for doing a fantastic job with Lucy. She did better than I could have ever dreamed for her first time out. She listened to all of my commands – both voice and with the whistle, she also retrieved a couple of times. If a dog could smile, Lucy was grinning all weekend long. When a shot was fired across the field she would stop and look in that direction and then go back to hunting. There were four of us, and on Saturday we all got our limits and she accounted for half of them. Sunday was a little slower but we ended up with thirteen birds total (I also got my limit). I am very pleased with the training that she has received, and I see nothing but great hunts in the future with her. Thank you for the time that you spent with her, she is going to be wonderful for my boys and myself to hunt with.”

About the Trainer

Blue Ridge Kennels #2, located in Dixon, California, is a boarding kennel that primarily serves high-energy, outdoor-loving dogs. The facility offers large indoor/outdoor private runs, which are 2-3 times larger than many smaller, indoor kennels, allowing dogs to go in and out as they please.

The kennel prioritizes safety and cleanliness, hosing out kennels multiple times daily and cleaning and sanitizing all kennels with pet-safe soap and sanitizer every day, not just between reservations. This daily cleaning reduces exposure to bacterial, viral, and other pathogens. Dogs receive newly sanitized bowls for each meal to further reduce the risk of disease spread.

Boarding fees include food and care, with no extra charges for client-provided food or medication, and special diets and feeding schedules are accommodated. Dogs receive 3-4 visits to exercise yards daily for individual or group play. A caretaker is on the property 24 hours per day.

The kennel also assists NorCal GSP Rescue by boarding dogs directly from shelters until foster or adoption can be arranged. While the business no longer provides training services, its client base stretches back to the early 90s, built on the reputation of its former head trainer, Steve Klassen.

Accomplishments

Steve Klassen, the former head trainer, trained a GCH Irish Setter show dog to be the 4th Irish Setter in the nation to get his MHA, and the #1 Irish Setter in the nation to be a GCH show dog with advanced titles in obedience and rally. Other dogs trained by Steve achieved titles such as Master Hunter (MHA), Junior Hunter (JH), and various obedience and rally titles. The kennel has a client base stretching back to the early 90s.
