Blue Sky Tollers

Blue Sky Tollers focuses on training their own Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers for various dog sports and activities. Their dogs participate in conformation, obedience, rally, and field events, achieving titles such as AKC/CKC Champion, Grand Champion, Junior Hunter, Working Certificate, and Rally Novice. They emphasize a holistic approach where their dogs are involved in family life, field work, conformation, obedience, and general fun.

Blue Sky Tollers is a mother/daughter team, Diane and Sarah, dedicated to the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever (NSDTR) breed. They are passionate about preserving the Toller by actively participating in various dog sports, including field, conformation, and obedience events. They consider themselves ambassadors of the breed and strive to provide a safe and stimulating environment for their dogs, believing in their unlimited potential.

Their journey with Tollers began in 2008 with the acquisition of “Sunny” and “Taylor,” followed by the import of “Rina” from Finland in 2011 to expand the North American gene pool. They emphasize that while Tollers are not suited for every home, they fit their lifestyle well.

Their own Tollers are highly versatile, excelling in family life, field work, conformation shows, obedience trials, and general fun. Currently, they are focused on playing and training their own dogs and are not accepting applications for puppies.

Accomplishments

Blue Sky Tollers is a mother/daughter team, Diane and Sarah, with extensive experience in the dog community. Diane has been involved in dog shows since showing a St. Bernard and has been an active member of the Peninsula Dog Fanciers’ Club, contributing to AKC Conformation, Obedience, Agility, and Responsible Dog Ownership Day events. Sarah has been part of the local dog community since birth, serving as a junior club member and working on various committees, with her Golden Retriever “Misty” introducing her to obedience.

Their dogs have achieved numerous accolades: Ranger is an AKC/CKC Champion and was ranked #2 Toller in Canada in July 2024, with multiple Best of Breed wins and Group Placements. Cassie is a 2017 AKC Champion, NSDTRC-US Working Certificate holder, AKC Junior Hunter, and holds AKC CGC & CGCA titles, having been owner-breeder handled. Sunny earned a Beginner Novice “A” Obedience Title with high scores, qualified for the NAHRA Western Regional Invitational 2013, achieved Rally Novice “A” titles, and is a Started Hunting Retriever (NAHRA, HRC) and Working Certificate (NSDTR-US) titled dog, also holding CKC CH, AKC GCH SHR, and CGC. Rina is an AKC Champion/CKC Pointed dog, earning a 5-point Major and Reserve Winner Bitch at the 2012 NSDTRC-US Specialty. Taylor is an AKC Champion and CKC Champion, with Winner’s Dog and Best of Winners placements. Lucy has earned a 5-point Major and multiple Best of Winners placements. They are members in good standing of NSDTR – US, NSDTR – CAN, and North American Hunting Retriever Association (NAHRA).
