Testimonials

I can’t thank BEotL and Doug enough. Personalized attention to addressing in home and public behaviors. While we still have a ways to go in our training, this puppy and I are learning what it takes to have a public and home friendly dog. We will definitely be calling on our friend Doug and BEotL for guidance and a refresher (when needed) as we continue training. Journey and I give Doug & BEotL a 2 thumbs and 4 paws up rating!

Doug has been working with my husband and I and our four year old dog for six weeks now. He is knowledgeable, patient, and compassionate, and has a knack for teaching that is effective. His follow up session notes are both timely and helpful.

The areas that we have worked together on are 1)dog reactivity, 2)greeting people nicely, 3)stop barking in the house and at the door, 4)reinforcing basic commands – sit, down, stay, come, and walking nicely on a leash.

We are still working with our dog but have already learned so many helpful tips and tricks. We are happy to report that our dog can now sit in “place” when we answer the door, the barking in the house has nearly ceased, and he no longer jumps up on people that he greets! In addition, he will sit, stay, come, and walks more cooperatively on a leash.

Overall, we are very pleased and would highly recommend Doug as a dog trainer.

Doug gets dogs! He has an incredible ability to connect with dogs, which is why I believe his methods are so effective. Not only does he understand how dogs think and learn, but he also has a natural way of inspiring them to want to work with him.

About the Trainer

Both Ends of the Leash is a dog training business led by Doug, who specializes in owner-centered, in-home training. The business believes that the owner’s actions and communication are the key to changing a dog’s behavior, and focuses on teaching owners how their dogs think and communicate. Doug conducts house calls to evaluate and address behaviors in the dog’s natural environment, helping owners develop effective, consistent communication with their pets. The training emphasizes understanding dog behavior, using food rewards properly, transitioning to random reinforcement, and applying timely corrections for noncompliance. Doug also provides educational content on topics like food rewards, dog scams, and fear-based behaviors through blog posts. The service is designed for owners seeking long-term behavioral change rather than just basic obedience tricks.

Training is tailored to individual dogs and households, with support for multiple dogs in the same home. Doug helps with issues like leash pulling, reactivity, barking, resource guarding, fearfulness, and poor recall. He also offers guidance on puppy training and foundational obedience, with an emphasis on building a strong, respectful relationship between dog and owner.

Accomplishments

Doug has a long history of developing happy, well-adjusted dogs who are good citizens and loved by their families. He is described as a student of dog behavior with a deep understanding of canine communication and learning. No formal certifications or awards are listed on the website.
