Alamo Dog Obedience Club offers a comprehensive range of classes including Star Puppy, Trick Puppy, Basic Manners, Canine Good Citizen (CGC), Rally, Agility, and Competition Obedience. Agility classes range from Beginner/Foundation 1 (introducing equipment and vocabulary with positive methods) and Beginner/Foundation 2 (sequencing obstacles at higher heights) to Masters/Advanced Coursework/Sequences (focusing on advanced skills for AKC/UKI/USDAA master level competitions, including handling techniques like front, rear, and blind crosses).
Specialized agility offerings include Workshops on Skills & Drills (handling, lines, speed, international skills), Premier Skills & Sequences (AKC Premier Class challenges), and Puppy Agility Foundations (basic self-control, targeting, sit, down, come, stand, back up, stay through positive games). Obedience classes cover basic manners, which are a prerequisite for group beginner agility classes, and progress through Novice, Open, and Utility levels. Rally classes are available for all levels. The club offers flexible scheduling options for students with irregular work schedules.
Pricing & Policies
Pricing Summary
Beginner/Foundation 1 Agility classes are $180 for 6 classes. Agility drop-ins are available for $30 if a class is not full. Master Coursework and Novice Sequencing classes are $100 for 4 weeks. AKC Utility/Open/Novice Obedience semi-private lessons are $45 per half hour, and AKC Masters/Excellent/Advanced group classes are $100 for 4 weeks. Membership dues are $20 per year. Payments are accepted via cash or check, made out to ADOC.
About the Trainer
Alamo Dog Obedience Club, established in 1953, is the pioneer obedience training club of San Antonio, Texas. Its mission is to promote dog training for companionship, good behavior, and entry in obedience trials, while fostering good sportsmanship among members and dog fanciers.
The club provides a wide range of training classes including basic manners, agility, and rally at its facility in southeast San Antonio. They also sponsor and hold AKC Obedience, Rally, Agility, and Fast CAT competitions.
Their classes utilize positive, motivational methods, focusing on safety and enjoyment, allowing each dog to progress at their own pace. The club boasts highly experienced instructors, many of whom are AKC judges and have achieved numerous competition titles across various dog sports and breeds.
Accomplishments
Alamo Dog Obedience Club is recognized as the pioneer obedience training club in San Antonio, Texas, established in 1953. The club regularly holds AKC obedience, rally, and agility trials.
Their instructors have significant accomplishments: Joni Puckett is an AKC certified Canine Good Citizen instructor with over 30 years of private lesson experience. Debbie Moore has achieved over 30 obedience & rally titles and 30+ AKC & USDAA Agility Championships on various breeds, including her toy poodle April, a three-time 8″ AKC National Agility Champion, and Louie, the first dog in San Antonio with the AKC Agility Grand Championship. Debbie is also an AKC agility Judge, a retired middle school science teacher, and holds leadership positions in several dog clubs. Christine Meyers has earned 59 titles on 5 rescue dogs, achieved the AKC Agility Grand Championship in 2023, and is an ACT evaluator and chief course builder for agility trials. Courtney Moore, an AKC, UKI & USDAA Agility Judge, earned an obedience title at age 7 and is a popular seminar presenter. Helen Rhodes successfully shows and titles her dogs in conformation, obedience, rally, Fast CAT, and agility, and serves as Vice-President of the club. Matt Palmieri previously taught and judged USDAA and UKI agility in California.
How to Get Started!
To reserve a space in any training class, clients should pre-register by emailing the registration forms and a copy of current shot records to the listed instructor. Payment (cash or check made out to ADOC) is due at the first class. Additional registrations after classes begin may be approved by the instructor. For class information or enrollment, clients can contact specific instructors directly via phone or email, depending on the class type. A complete message should be left when calling. Basic manners training is a requirement for all group beginner agility classes. Registration forms are required for new students not in monthly classes. The club can work with students who have irregular work schedules to accommodate them in different classes.
