Dog Training Methodology

Methods:

  • Positive Reinforcement Only

CJ’s Dog Training offers several group classes and private lessons. The Puppy Primer Class is a single session for owners (without puppies) covering basics like housetraining, chewing, and socialization, with the $15 fee applicable to Puppy Kindergarten.

Puppy Kindergarten is for puppies 9-18 weeks old, focusing on socialization, bite inhibition, and basic commands like sit, down, and come. Beginning Obedience is for dogs 4.5 months and older, teaching manners, self-control, loose leash walking, and attention in distracting environments.

Intermediate Obedience builds on Beginning Obedience, increasing self-control with distractions and including Canine Good Citizen test exercises. Rally Obedience is a dog sport class that improves obedience skills and strengthens the bond between handler and dog, with Beginning Obedience as a prerequisite. Private lessons are available for specific needs, scheduling conflicts, or dogs not suited for group classes, offered in-home or at the facility.

About the Trainer

CJ’s Dog Training is dedicated to saving dogs’ lives through the education of owners on how dogs think and through the education of dogs using effective, humane training methods. They aim to help dog owners understand and enjoy their puppies and dogs, providing them with a great head start in life.

The business offers classes for puppies and adult dogs, focusing on teaching good manners, self-control, and addressing unwanted behaviors. Their training methods are based on how dogs and people learn, utilizing rewards and positive reinforcement, explicitly stating they do not use pain or punishment.

Classes are held indoors in a temperature-controlled environment. They emphasize building confidence in insecure dogs and establishing positive leadership. The goal is to help owners be happy with their dogs and provide a foundation for those interested in dog sports.
