Dog Training Methodology

Methods:

  • Balanced Training

Equipment:

  • Food Rewards
  • Obstacle Courses

Canine College offers a variety of dog training programs designed for all ages and stages, from puppies to senior dogs. Their approach emphasizes positive reinforcement and tailored solutions.

Puppy Kindergarten is a 5-week program for puppies aged 9 to 16 weeks, focusing on basic obedience commands (heel, sit, down, stand, come, sit stay, down stay, leave it, no jump, off, go to your place) and socialization. It also covers topics like grooming, immunizations, food, housebreaking, and crate training, preparing puppies for S.T.A.R. Puppy and Canine Good Citizen certifications.

Elementary I & II classes are for dogs 4 months and older, building on basic on-leash commands over two 5-week courses, with Elementary II introducing faster and more complex commands. These classes also help prepare dogs for the Canine Good Citizen certification.

Group Training classes are held at their Holbrook facility and include various levels: Elementary, Advanced Elementary (groundwork for off-leash, AKC obedience competition prep), Beyond Advanced and Off-Leash (for CGC-passed dogs, includes agility and rally, AKC obedience, retrieving), Competition Training (conformation, obedience, SchH 1-111), Aggression (private evaluation and specialized training), Protection Training (breed-specific, obedience, obstacle maneuvers), Tracking, and Fun Nose Work (using scent for mental/physical stimulation).

Private Training lessons are 5-week customized courses addressing specific behavioral concerns, available at their facility or in-home. These lessons can prepare dogs for the S.T.A.R. Program, Canine Good Citizen, and Registered Therapy Dog Certification.

Resident Training is a unique program where dogs board at the Holbrook facility for 1, 2, 3, or 4 weeks, receiving daily individual training from qualified staff. This program includes family instruction sessions during and after the stay, along with a follow-up private lesson for 2, 3, and 4-week programs.

They also offer specialized Dog Show Training & Breed Handling for dogs 6 months and older (purebred, unspayed/unneutered) to prepare for conformation shows, and Trick Dog Training with certified evaluators for Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, and Performer titles, recognized by the AKC. All classes generally run for 5 weeks, with vaccination records and payments required prior to class start dates.

Testimonials

“We love the Canine College organization and their trainers. We have a 3 year old rottweiler who has gone for group training classes at varying levels and the trainer has done a beautiful job with him and (and us!) The classes have all included a variety of breeds and varying ages and she understands and develops all of them with true skill and professionalism. We now have a second pup and she is going to school as well! The training has made an incredible difference in our dogs’ behavior and our own ability to understand and guide them.”
