Dog Training Methodology
Methods:
- ✓ Positive Reinforcement Only
Canine Communication offers group training classes, including PuppyK/Basic Obedience, Intermediate, and Advanced levels. The 6-week PuppyK/Basic Obedience class teaches fundamental commands such as sit, down, come, stay, leave it, and drop, while also promoting dog socialization.
The Intermediate Class focuses on the “3 D’s”: Distraction, Duration, and Distance. The Advanced class prepares dogs and their owners for the nationally recognized AKC Canine Good Citizen test and assists with therapy dog training. All classes are 1 hour long and are held weekly at their Alpena facility.
Doggy Daycare is a training-based “play and learn” program where dogs engage in play while receiving basic obedience training and manners reinforcement throughout the day. This includes addressing behaviors like jumping and barking, and reinforcing commands such as sits, downs, stay, wait, and place. Daycare operates as a group environment, is by reservation only with a maximum of 20 dogs per day, and offers VIP memberships and packages.
Pricing & Policies
Pricing Summary
Basic Obedience and PuppyK classes are priced at $175. Full payment for classes or sessions is required online to reserve a spot. For doggy daycare, VIP memberships and packages (5 or 10 days) are available, in addition to by-the-day reservations.
Policies
Full refunds are provided if cancellation occurs within 48 hours of the first class or session. Other sessions can be rescheduled, but no refunds will be given.
Required vaccinations include Bordetella, Distemper, Lepto, Parvo, and Rabies (for dogs over 6 months of age), with proof needed at the first session. The business notes a distinction between reactive and aggressive behavior; private sessions for reactive behavior are currently unavailable. Dogs attending daycare must not have a history of aggression towards other dogs or people. Intact male dogs are permitted in daycare if they do not cause disruptions, while intact females in heat must remain home. A late pickup fee of $5 for every five minutes after 6 PM applies for daycare.

“Elle is an amazing dog trainer who will go the extra mile with you and your dog to help you work out problem situations. My dog, Mazie, was 5 months old when she met Elle, and now she’s 14 months old and is ready to take and pass her Canine Good Citizen test….she’s on her way to being the therapy dog I’ve always dreamed of.”

How to Get Started!
For obedience training, clients can schedule classes online and are required to complete a questionnaire during the booking process. A Training Agreement and Terms & Conditions form must be reviewed and signed at the beginning of the first training session or class.
For doggy daycare, a Meet & Greet evaluation is mandatory before a dog’s first day to assess temperament and behavior. This evaluation can be scheduled online or by phone, and dogs must arrive before 8 AM on their first daycare day. Booking for doggy daycare is also available through the Gingr Pet Parent app.
