Dog Training Methodology

Methods:

  • Balanced Training

Equipment:

  • muzzle

Canine Protection International offers three distinct training programs: CPI Obedience, Executive Protection Dog, and Elite Family & Estate Protection Dog. All programs include personal instruction and are designed to achieve “functional results” in obedience, protection, and manners.

Their training philosophy is balanced, first inspiring behaviors with motivation, then conditioning them through both positive and negative reinforcement, using as much positive reinforcement as possible and as little negative reinforcement as needed. The training process involves four phases: foundational training (imprinting drives, developing biting and fighting skills), teaching specific skills (advanced obedience, handler protection), functionality (applying skills in real-world scenarios), and integration (ensuring performance across various mindsets, physiologies, and environments).

Custom-tailored training is available either before dog delivery or by trainers at the client’s home. The Elite Family & Estate Protection Dog program focuses on optimal protection for worst-case scenarios, emphasizing threat deterrence and liability mitigation through strategic commands like “POLICE” and “Knock it Off,” along with advanced biting, fighting, and handler protection skills. The Executive Protection Dog program provides impeccable manners, complete off-leash control, and basic protection skills (turn on, attack, turn off) taught at an advanced level, with a focus on responding to passive threats.

In-home handling instruction for clients throughout the United States and abroad is available for an additional fee.

About the Trainer

Canine Protection International (CPI) specializes in providing fully trained protection dogs with complete off-leash control, designed to seamlessly integrate into family life. They emphasize a low-volume approach, selling approximately 24 Elite Family & Estate Protection Dogs annually, ensuring personalized training for each dog.

CPI’s unique process involves European procurement and training at their facility in Slovakia, with final training completed at their brand-new facility just north of Dallas, TX. During this final stage, dogs live in the homes of CPI owners and trainers. With 30 years of proven excellence, CPI has delivered thousands of dogs globally and offers an industry-leading health and satisfaction guarantee.

Their training methods are custom-tailored to individual family needs, including interactions with toddlers and children, specific room boundaries, and etiquette around swimming pools or boats. They also offer customized protection training, such as teaching a dog to show aggression only when someone tries to enter a car or to direct an attack towards a specific threat.

CPI distinguishes its functional training from traditional dog sports, focusing on real-world scenarios and ensuring dogs are prepared for actual threats. Beyond training, they also offer raw dog food and related products. Their commitment extends to long-term client satisfaction, providing ongoing support and fostering a culture of “extreme ownership” from initial contact through the dog becoming part of the family.

Accomplishments

Canine Protection International boasts 30 years of proven excellence, establishing itself as a pioneer and leader in the protection dog industry. They have successfully delivered thousands of dogs across the US and globally. CPI operates an industry-first European procurement and training facility in Slovakia, complemented by a state-of-the-art 2,400-square-foot facility on 10 private acres north of Dallas, Texas, where dogs complete their final training living in the homes of CPI owners and trainers. They continuously evolve their training approaches and exercises, having created new programs such as the Elite Family Guardian by CPI™ and the Elite Personal and Estate Security Dog by CPI™.

How to Get Started!

To begin the process, clients are asked to fill out a comprehensive online questionnaire to help CPI understand their specific needs, expectations, and personal preferences. Following this, a brief but thorough phone call is conducted to select the right dog and appropriate training program. The chosen dog’s training is then customized as needed, and the dog is personally delivered by CPI’s training staff. Clients interested in available dogs can also join an exclusive waitlist.
