Testimonials

“We, personally, as well as many of our clients, have used the services of Canine Training Unlimited/Four Paws Inn for our pets over the years. They have a wealth of knowledge on canine behavior, which has been accumulated through three generations-PJ, Lisa-Marie and Caitlin. I highly recommend them for your training needs.”
– Ronald Hallstrom, DVM

“After my rescue dog (a 2 year old chocolate lab) attacked the pizza man on the front lawn one evening, I knew I needed help. I went to Lisa Marie and her staff. We completed two classes – one for aggression and one for good manners. After a long summer of training, my pup became a therapy dog for CHKD. I wouldn’t trust anyone else with my sweet Gunner. He attends day care and is boarded there when we leave town. They are fantastic.”

“I have been training with CTU since 1985 and would not recommend any place else, they train with love and compassion”

About the Trainer

Canine Training Unlimited is a family-owned and operated dog training business in Chesapeake, VA, with a legacy spanning three generations. They have been providing dog training and related services since 1982 in Virginia, building on family kennel experience from the 1970s in Massachusetts. The team, including matriarch P.J. Reilly, Lisa-Marie Janotka, and Caitlin Sierra, offers a wealth of knowledge on canine behavior.

They specialize in creating well-mannered, happy, and obedient pets for average dog owners. Their services include group obedience classes for puppies and adult dogs, advanced training, and an intensive 12-day drop-off training program. Additionally, they provide dog daycare, boarding, and grooming services like baths, nail trims, and ear cleaning.

Canine Training Unlimited has built a strong reputation, with many clients referred by word of mouth from veterinarians, groomers, breeders, and other dog professionals. They are known for their love and compassion in training, and their commitment to treating dogs like their own.

Accomplishments

Canine Training Unlimited is a multi-generational family business with extensive experience in canine behavior and training. P.J. Reilly, the matriarch, has been training dogs since 1965, is an internationally known canine behaviorist, and was the second person in the U.S. and first in Britain to train hearing dogs. She was an assistant trainer for original Massachusetts police dogs and attained titles on 18 dogs. Lisa-Marie Janotka began her career at age 7 in her family’s kennel, managed other kennels, attended grooming school, and has attained obedience and conformation titles. Caitlin Sierra started training at age 2 and began teaching obedience classes in 2005, involved in obedience, rally, therapy dog work, agility, and fly ball. The business has been operating for over 30 years, building a strong reputation through word-of-mouth referrals from veterinarians and other dog professionals.

How to Get Started!

To get started with group classes, clients should bring their dog, copies of their dog’s Distemper, Rabies, Bordetella, and Canine Influenza vaccines, a lawn chair or blanket, and their registration and waiver forms. For daycare, dogs must be 8 weeks or older, neutered if over six months, up-to-date on required vaccinations (Bordetella suggested two weeks prior if not current), friendly with dogs and people, and wear a flat collar/harness marked with their name.
