Cara provides one-on-one training sessions with clients and their dogs in their home environment. The training process typically begins with an introductory session designed to gather information about the dog and client, discuss expectations, create a customized training plan, and teach basic foundational skills.
Subsequent sessions can be booked to cover a variety of topics. These include foundational skills and basic obedience, focusing on reliable responses to cues like Sit, Down, Stay, and Come, as well as proper leash manners and appropriate behaviors outside the home, including working through distractions. The programs also address overcoming behavioral issues such as reactivity, separation anxiety, resource guarding, fear of strangers, and dog aggression, utilizing techniques like desensitization, counter-conditioning, and management strategies.
For puppies, training covers setting a strong foundation by integrating basic training into daily routines, understanding developmental stages, and implementing effective housebreaking strategies. Socialization and desensitization training involves exposing dogs to various people, places, and situations, reducing environmental sensitivity, and learning redirection techniques. Additionally, Cara offers enrichment guidance to help owners understand their dog’s physical, mental, and emotional needs, providing ideas for games, puzzles, and problem-solving activities. Extra practice sessions are also available where Cara works directly with the dog when the owner is not present, focusing on skill practice, real-world training, and providing physical and mental stimulation.
Testimonials
“Cara is an amazing talent! We worked with my dog Woflie on aggression towards other dogs, separation anxiety, leash pulling, socialization, and more. She is a natural with animals, and commands their attention in a friendly manner. We worked once a week for a few months and I saw increased improvement with my dog, particularly at his aggressiveness towards other dogs. She also had great recommendations and tips that have helped in all aspects of dog training. I would definitely recommend Cara.”
– Chrissie and Wolfie
“Cara is the consummate dog trainer. She is upbeat and encouraging. She comes prepared with new lessons each week tailored to your dog’s needs and potentials. She listens to you carefully and is attentive to the unique personality of your dog, customizing her advice so that the training works with your lifestyle and the learning outcomes are sustainable. I see growth in my puppy every week and my puppy just loves her. Cara also makes very efficient use of your time and is flexible, meeting you at locations throughout the city to train your puppy in different environments. She is highly skilled and has a wealth of experience in service dog training, so if you have a challenging pooch or a pooch that needs high-level skills, Cara is the trainer for you. I recommend her without reservation!”
– Dawn and Paloma
“With our recent move, exposure to more street noise and foot traffic, and challenges of return to work post COVID, our two small dogs were stressed and barking too much. Cara has helped me and them tremendously. She is a skilled professional, warm and engaged with the pups, explains all she is doing and planning very clearly. I have learned a lot and I am so grateful for the huge improvement in their behavior. If you need help with your dog, I recommend her highly.”
