Dog Training Methodology

Methods:

  • Balanced Training

Equipment:

  • Clickers

The Board and Train program is an in-home immersive training experience lasting a few weeks, focusing on basic obedience, home manners, and confidence building. It utilizes a balanced approach, starting with positive reinforcement, and takes place both inside the trainer’s home (e.g., kitchen, with other pets) and in public spaces in Austin and Dripping Springs. Essential commands taught include Sit/Stay, Down/Stay, Leave it, Wait at the door, Place, Loose leash walking, and Come (reliable recall). The program concludes with a one-hour “go-home” lesson and includes two private follow-up lessons within three months. Puppies must be 16 weeks or older with a full set of shots to enroll.

Private lessons include a one-hour puppy training session covering potty training, crate training, socialization, and handling common puppy behaviors like biting, chewing, and jumping, along with building a healthy routine. A portion of this fee can be credited towards the 4-week Board and Train program. Other private lessons cover basic obedience (sit/stay, down/stay, waiting at the door, place, loose leash walking, recall), swimming lessons to help dogs enjoy water activities, addressing behavioral issues in the home, and teaching tricks using clicker training.

Testimonials

“Very happy with the transformation Goose (my 14 month old 75 # dog) has made after 4 weeks of board and train with Catherine at Cat for Dogs. It was very hard to send her off to boarding school for so long but we are all much happier now that we have the tools we need to walk peacefully in the neighborhood, make relaxed stops at the pet store and even continue to improve recall when off leash. Cat is very knowledgeable and skilled in the system she uses to train dogs. Highly recommend her – you will not be disappointed with the significant change she can accomplish in 4 weeks.”
– Flo Rice

“Cat was wonderful with my dog. She communicated well with me and sent videos of his progress. He came back happy and well behaved. He learned lots of new commands and has been doing great with all his new information. I highly recommend Cat for dogs. Money well spent on your little family member”
– Kimberly Yule

“We dropped off Indy, our year old high-energy Golden Retriever, with Catherine for a 4 week board and train. We expressed our concerns with his recall, jumping, and pulling on the leash. Catherine worked diligently each day with Indy and regularly sent us videos tracking his progress. When he came home, we noticed a significant and positive change in both his behavior and obedience. We continue to work daily with Indy and he is only improving. My wife and I are very happy with the results and would not hesitate to recommend Catherine for training to encourage a happy home life.”
– Greg Coats

About the Trainer

Cat for Dogs Training LLC is a professional dog training business led by Catherine Muffat, who graduated from the Triple Crown School of Dog Training (now Starmark Academy) in 2010. Catherine has worked full-time as a professional dog trainer since then, training hundreds of dogs of various breeds and temperaments.

The business offers personalized puppy training, obedience training, and help with common behavioral challenges. Catherine uses a balanced and personalized training approach, starting with positive reinforcement and adjusting techniques based on the dog’s unique needs. She also competes in the sport of IGP (Tracking, Obedience, Protection), which helps her stay updated with modern dog training techniques.

Cat for Dogs Training LLC provides in-home Board and Train programs where dogs stay in the trainer’s home, learning basic obedience, home manners, and confidence building. Training takes place both inside the home and in real-world public spaces. Private lessons are also available for puppy training, basic obedience, swimming lessons, behavioral issues, and tricks.

The in-home facility ensures personal attention, supervised playtime, low-stress interaction with other dogs, and proper house manners. Dogs are potty-trained late at night, unlike large kennels. The business also offers pet boarding services.
