CDTC offers a structured class progression for various disciplines. Pet/Intro Obedience classes include AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy, Advanced Star Puppy, Puppy 1 & 2, Life Skills for Dogs (Levels 1 & 2), Intro to Sports, Beginner Obedience/Rally I & II, CGC Test Prep, CGCA Test Prep, Controlled Walking, Therapy Work Preparation, Tricks Concepts, Control Unleashed, and Heeling Foundations.

Competition Obedience/Rally classes cover Beginner Novice/Novice Level, Competition Open, Competition Utility, Obedience/Rally Skills I & II, Rally Novice Fundamentals, Rally/Obedience Foundation Skills, and various Rally Runthroughs (Novice, Intermediate/Advanced/Excellent, Excellent Signs, Master Signs, Choice/Master, Hybrid Proofing and Problem Solving).

Agility classes include Pre-Agility 1 & 2, Agility 1-4 (Groundwork, Obstacle Commitment, Beginner Handling, Refining Handling and Contacts/Weaves), ABC Agility Sequencing, Beginner Agility, Intermediate Handling, Advanced Handling, Agility Skills, and Agility Advanced Skills & Sequence.

Scent Work classes are structured with a Foundations Program (Introduction to Scent Work 1 & 2, Introduction to Odor 1 & 2), followed by higher-level classes such as Scent Work Intermediate, Scent Work Excellent, Trial Prep (Novice/Advanced, Excellent/Masters/Detective), Scent Work Skills, and Self Serve Sniff/Sniff N Go. Regular classes meet once a week for 6 weeks, with special mini-sessions also available.

Pricing & Policies

Pricing Summary

Annual membership dues are $25 for a single membership and $30 for a family membership. Members receive reduced class fees and access to unstructured ring time. Drop-in classes cost $5 per session for members and $10 per session for non-members. Practice time for members is $5 per dog.

Policies

Proof of vaccination is required for participation in drop-in classes. For certain classes like CGC Test Prep, successful completion of a prerequisite class or instructor approval is required, and enrollment is not guaranteed without proper documentation. Members actively using the facility are asked to help with setting up or taking down mats, gating, and equipment each session, and are expected to assist at club-sponsored trials and events.

About the Trainer

Charlotte Dog Training Club (CDTC) is a non-profit volunteer organization that has been serving Charlotte area dog owners since 1955. They promote responsible dog ownership through obedience training, aiming to help canine friends become good citizens.

CDTC offers a wide range of classes including puppy socialization, pet beginner, and advanced beginner classes for companion dogs. Their experienced and knowledgeable instructors can assist dog owners interested in competition Obedience, Rally, Agility, Scent Work, Tracking, or simply gaining better control of their dog.

Classes are held in a convenient, heated and air-conditioned, fully matted, indoor facility with ample, well-lit parking. They offer year-round training opportunities with 6-week sessions, special mini-sessions, and drop-in classes available during daytime, evening, and weekend hours.

Accomplishments

Charlotte Dog Training Club has been serving dog owners since 1955. They are recognized for promoting responsible dog ownership and have experienced and knowledgeable instructors. The club hosts AKC sanctioned agility, obedience, rally, and scent work trials, and offers annual awards for AKC performance titles. CDTC has also been featured on WTVI Carolina Impact.

How to Get Started!

Prospective clients can sign up for email notifications to receive information on seminars, special events, class sign-ups, and registration deadlines. Class registration typically opens to members first, followed by non-members a few days later. To become a member, applicants must successfully complete two companion dog training sessions at CDTC within the previous 24 months, or have previously earned an AKC Companion Dog Title and completed one class at CDTC. Membership applications are subject to board approval, and payment should not be sent until approval notification is received.
