Chuckanut Kelpies and Aussies is a dog training business run by Jan Wesen, who has been working with dogs since 1985. She specializes in Australian Kelpies and Australian Shepherds, focusing primarily on working stockdogs while also integrating obedience for well-rounded canine companions.
Jan trains and competes with her own Australian Kelpies and Australian Shepherds in various disciplines including herding, obedience, tracking, agility, and flyball. She also teaches herding and obedience classes and conducts clinics across the country.
The business operates from a dedicated training facility on her 800-cow dairy farm in Bow, WA. This facility is also utilized by various dog clubs for performance events. Jan’s background, including being raised on a dairy farm and holding a B.S. in Dairy Science, provides a practical foundation for her dog training approach, particularly for working dogs.

Chuckanut Kelpies and Aussies is recognized as an ASCA Hall of Fame Excellent Kennel #53 and Stockdog Kennel of Excellence 2021. Jan Wesen’s personal accomplishments include 6th place MVA in 2006, Champion ASCA Finals Cattle in 2008 and 2018, and 2012 ASCA National Cattle Winner. She also achieved 6th ASCA finals Ducks in 2008 and 7th ASCA Finals Cattle in 2018, along with multiple High in Trials.
Her dogs have earned numerous titles, including 4 SDCH, 4 WTCH X, 28 WTCH (20 Aussies and 8 Kelpies), 8 AHBA HTCH, 4 AKC HC, 2 CKC HA, 21 AKC HX, 1 AKC UDX, 5 AKC TDX, 11 AKC TD, 3 AKC UD, 4 AKC CDX, 17 AKC, CKC, ASCA CD, 16 RTD, 2 RDX, 3 RS-N JS-N GS-N, 1 RS-0 JS-O GS-O, and 2 RE. Jan Wesen is also a judge for ASCA (Stockdog, Rally, Agility, Obedience, Tracking), AKC (Herding Tracking), CKC (Herding), and AHBA.
