Cloud K-9 offers 4 levels of obedience classes, including Beginning Manners (introductory obedience for all ages), Intermediate Manners Levels 1 & 2 (continued obedience requiring beginning obedience), and Advanced Manners (polishing commands for AKC CGC or advanced obedience). They also provide specialty classes such as Agility, Tricks, CGC Prep, and a non-shock rattlesnake aversion class.
Their Canine Good Citizen program includes AKC S.T.A.R. puppy classes, Canine Good Citizen evaluations, Community Canine evaluations, and Urban Canine evaluations. They can also test for AKC Trick Titles (Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, Performer) and Farm Dog testing, which assesses a dog’s calmness around livestock.
Private lessons are available in 4, 6, or 8 lesson packages, offering custom training plans. The “Out and About” series is a 3-part program focusing on proper manners in different environments. An online Potty Training course is also available.
The Day Train program involves a trainer working with the dog three days a week, followed by a “transfer session” with the owner on the fourth day. This program includes an initial consultation, lessons with the dog, transfer sessions with the owner, and a follow-up. Private lessons are offered in packages of 4, 6, or 8 lessons. The 6 and 8 lesson packages include a free harness or treat pouch. Pre-payment is required two weeks in advance to reserve a spot in classes.
About the Trainer
Cloud K-9 Dog Training Services is a dog training business located in the heart of Las Cruces, NM, co-owned by Claren Wilson Mulhall and Eric Mulhall. They specialize in positive reinforcement based training techniques, rejecting “dominance theory” to foster a positive mutual bond between dogs and their owners.
They offer a variety of services including group classes, private lessons, day training programs, workshops, and pet and house sitting. Their training programs cover four levels of obedience, task classes, and a non-shock rattlesnake aversion class. Their trainers have experience working with a wide range of breeds, sizes, and ages of dogs.
Claren is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA) and a Certified Behavior Consultant Canine Knowledge Assessed (CBCC-KA) through the CCPDT, and holds a Fear Free Trainer Certification. She is also a Certified Dog Bite Prevention Educator, an AKC Canine Good Citizen evaluator, and is Pet First Aid and CPR certified. Eric specializes in working with large to giant breeds and dogs with concerns about men, and has extensive experience with shelter dogs. Both co-owners actively volunteer at the Animal Services Center of Mesilla Valley, helping to train volunteers and improve dog adoptability.
Accomplishments
Claren Wilson Mulhall is a distinguished graduate from New Mexico State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science emphasizing Companion Animals. She is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA) and a Certified Behavior Consultant Canine Knowledge Assessed (CBCC-KA) through the Certification Council of Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT). Claren has completed her Fear Free Trainer Certification and is a Certified Dog Bite Prevention Educator. She previously worked at a veterinary clinic and as a trainer at Petco, where she became a dog training mentor and received her AKC Canine Good Citizen evaluator certification. She is also Pet First Aid and CPR certified.
Eric Mulhall holds a Bachelor’s of Business in Economics from New Mexico State University and is a Canine Good Citizen Evaluator. Both Claren and Eric are active volunteers at the Animal Services Center of Mesilla Valley, where they train volunteers on proper dog walking and understanding dog body language to help shelter dogs become more adoptable.
