Columbia Canine Sports Center offers a wide range of dog training classes from puppy socialization and pet manners to top competition level classes in Agility, Obedience, Rally Obedience, Conformation, K9 Nosework, and Barn Hunt. Classes are generally limited to 8 students, often with two instructors, ensuring one-on-one attention. Regular classes meet for 50 minutes a week for six weeks.

They also offer specialized topic classes and workshops like Really Reliable Recall, Focused Heeling, Crate Games, Rock Solid Stays, Clicker Training – Trick Shaping, and Canine Self Control. Puppy classes include AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy, Advanced Puppy, Puppy Explorers (drop-in), and Obedience On The Road (drop-in). Obedience classes range from Pet Manners 1 (basic skills, problem solving) to Pet Manners 2 (CGC preparation) and Competition Obedience (Beginning, Intermediate, Advanced). Rally Obedience classes cover Foundations, Novice and Advanced, and Excellent and Master levels.

Pricing Summary

Regular classes meet for 50 minutes a week for six weeks and cost $190 per session. A discount is available for seniors over 65 and students with a valid ID, reducing the cost to $170. If you take three or more classes in one session, you receive a free 6-week building membership, or you can add a building membership for $60 for the six-week session. Drop-in classes like Puppy Explorers are $30 per class. Building membership fees are $60 for six weeks if enrolled in a concurrent class, $60 for a month of membership without class enrollment, $240 for four months (prepaid), $360 for six months (prepaid), and $720 for one year (prepaid).

Policies

Refunds for classes are only available during the first week. Students have the option to exchange for a different class or convert to 120 minutes of private lessons. Hardship cases due to illness or injury of the owner or dog are handled on a case-by-case basis by contacting the owners via email. If CCSC needs to reschedule a class due to instructor illness or weather, a makeup class will be held. However, they do not offer makeup classes for students who miss an individual class. Enrollments received after orientation for each session will be assessed a $20 per class late fee.

Their facility features a large canvas-covered open space, 120′ by 240′, fully matted with 1/2-inch rolled rubber, and an agility area with a turf surface.

They welcome all students, whether they aim for dog sports or simply want a well-behaved companion. Instructors are experienced and actively show and title their own dogs in the sports they teach.

The center is a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers and employs Certified Professional Dog Trainers (CPDT), AKC Certified Canine Good Citizen® Evaluators, Therapy Dog International® Evaluators, and AKC judges. These professionals oversee the curriculum to ensure progressive, positive, effective, and humane training methods are used. Columbia Canine Sports Center was founded in 2002 by Kathy Echols and Virginia Huxley with the goal of providing a safe and friendly training environment.

Accomplishments

Columbia Canine Sports Center is a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers. They have Certified Professional Dog Trainers (CPDT), AKC Certified Canine Good Citizen®™ Evaluators, Therapy Dog International®™ Evaluators, and several AKC judges as educators. The instructors actively show and title their dogs in the sports they teach. Owners Kathy Echols and Virginia Huxley are both CNWI, AKC Scent Work Judges, Barn Hunt Judges, and CGC Evaluators. Kathy Echols is also CPDT-KA. Virginia Huxley is an IAABC Associate. Jamie Sieveking is an AKC/UKC Rally Judge, AKC Scent Work Judge, and CGC Evaluator.

How to Get Started!

New students are required to attend an orientation via ZOOM, which is held the Thursday before the new class session starts at 6 PM. Participants should bring a copy of their dog’s vaccination records to the first class or email them in advance. Enrollment can be completed online through their registration site, where payment can also be made to guarantee a space. Alternatively, a class registration form can be filled out (available at CCSC) and submitted with payment to hold a space.
