Dog Training Methodology
Methods:
- ✓ Positive with Some Corrections
Compassionate Dog Training believes in teaching dogs through praise, not fear, by setting clear boundaries and being consistent with rules and gentle corrections. Training is done in baby steps to minimize corrections and make it a positive experience. Each training program is customized to fit the client’s lifestyle, pet’s personality, and long-term needs. They educate owners on why dogs do what they do, how they interact, and how they view the world to improve communication. They use crate training for housebreaking and do not use pinch/prong or choke collars, nor do they hit or hang dogs.
They offer both in-home training and group classes. In-home training provides customized, one-on-one attention, convenience, and addresses issues specific to the home environment. Group classes are less expensive and offer instant socialization. For in-home clients, socialization ideas and frequency are provided as part of weekly homework.
Pricing & Policies
Pricing Summary
The first in-home session is $95.00 for one and a half hours. Subsequent in-home sessions are $85.00 each for an hour. Group classes are less expensive than in-home training.
About the Trainer
Compassionate Dog Training is a dog training business led by Sandy Kamen Wisniewski, who has over 15 years of experience training dogs and their owners. She believes in teaching dogs with love, logic, and praise, combined with structure and gentle corrections. Her training style is described as unique, clever, and easy to understand.
The business offers both in-home training and group classes. Sandy travels to clients’ homes daily to perform behavior evaluations, assist with behavior modifications, and teach basic obedience. She has also taught group classes at locations such as the Glenview Park District, Lamb’s Farm, and Hawthorn Animal Hospital.
Compassionate Dog Training emphasizes teaching through praise rather than fear, setting clear boundaries, and maintaining consistency with rules and corrections. They train in “baby steps” to minimize corrections and ensure a positive experience for the dog. Each training program is customized to fit the client’s lifestyle, pet’s personality, and long-term needs. They educate owners on dog behavior and communication to foster a happier home environment.
The trainer explicitly states that they do not use pinch/prong collars or choke collars, considering them inhumane and unnecessary. They also use the crate training method for housebreaking and are completely against methods that involve hitting or hanging dogs.
