Covey Find Kennel

Covey Find Kennel offers comprehensive training programs tailored to individual dogs and owner expectations. For puppies (6 months and older), basic gun dog obedience commands like “whoa” and “here” are taught, alongside developing bird association skills by sight, scent, and gunfire, and fostering pointing and retrieving abilities to prepare them for their first hunting season.

After a season of practical field experience, dogs enter a second phase of advanced training at the kennel, focusing on skills such as steadiness on point, backing, and retrieving. The kennel also addresses specific problems like reluctance to honor, hold point, or gun shyness. Retriever training is available for both waterfowl and upland hunting, with basic training for puppies and extensive water work and upland discipline for second-year retrievers.

Obedience training is offered for all companion dogs to ensure they are suitable pets, available at the facility, through private lessons, or via obedience school. Owner education on proper dog handling and corrections in the field is included in the training price, and ongoing support is provided for any questions or problems after the dog leaves the kennel. Gun dog training programs, typically 6-8 weeks, accept up to 16 dogs starting in May, while field trial dogs are trained and conditioned from June to August. Hunting and training opportunities with client dogs or Scott’s dogs are available in December and January.

He specializes in training and campaigning Brittanys but works with all sporting breeds, appreciating all great field dogs.

Covey Find Kennel offers extensive bird dog training for discriminating bird hunters, as well as companion dog obedience training for all dogs. Training is conducted at their modern, clean facility and on over 20,000 acres of extensive training grounds in the Flint Hills of southern Kansas, abundant with wild Prairie Chicken and Bob White quail. They also sell puppies, dogs, horses, and equipment.

Covey Find Kennel has trained numerous champions, including DC/GCH Shelttany-Copley Echo Of Angels (2021 ABC National Gun Dog Champion), GFC/AFC MK’s My Lil Ammo (2021 & 2022 US Open Champion), NGDC/GFC/FC Sniksoh Little Diamond (2020/21 Garmin Award Winner, 2020 ABC National Gun Dog Champion), FC/AFC MK’s Magnificent Bandito (2020 ABC National Championship Runner-Up), and NFC NAGDC FC AFC B &T’s Sonndance Kid Rock (2022 National Field Champion, 2022 ABC National Amateur Gun Dog Championship winner). FC/AFC Poki-Dot is an ABC Hall Of Fame inductee. Many other dogs have achieved FC, AFC, DC, GFC, NAFC, and NGDC titles under their training.
