D & S Retrievers

D & S Retrievers offers a limited number of training opportunities exclusively for dogs bred from their litters. These include basic obedience training classes held on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings. The classes run seasonally from March through October.

D & S Retrievers is a business focused on breeding and training Labrador Retrievers. Scott Mengel, the owner, retired in 2006 to dedicate his time to these activities, bringing years of experience in training his own dogs and learning from various mentors. His wife, Deb, manages sales and finances for the business.

Effective 2024, Kristina Newton has joined as the Kennel Manager, with the long-term goal of taking over the business in four years. Kristina, a Kutztown University graduate with a business management degree, shares a lifelong love for Labrador Retrievers.

Accomplishments

Scott Mengel retired in 2006 after 28 years at a battery company to focus on dog training and breeding. He gained experience training his own dogs using books and videos, and learned new techniques from various mentors. He also worked and trained with Randy Bohn of Rammin’ Retrievers starting in August 2009.

Kristina Newton graduated from Kutztown University with a business management degree.
