Dakine Canine

Training begins with a 1.5-hour initial consultation to assess the dog’s history and set goals. Afterward, clients may choose individual sessions or package programs (3 or 5 sessions) for puppies or adolescent/adult dogs. Each session is one hour, in-home, and customized to the dog’s needs. Training focuses on positive reinforcement, redirection, and teaching owners how to communicate effectively. Sessions include follow-up summaries and resources. Walks and drop-ins are scheduled separately and include a free meet-and-greet. Group classes are not currently available but are coming soon.

Pricing Summary

Initial consultation: $150 (1.5 hours). Individual sessions: $100 per hour. Puppy and Adolescents/Adults packages: 3 sessions for $270 or 5 sessions for $450, with savings. Dog walks: $25 for 30 minutes (1 dog), $35 for 30 minutes (2 dogs), $50 for 60 minutes (1 dog), $60 for 60 minutes (2 dogs). A 50% deposit is required to book, non-refundable and non-transferable. Cancellations require 48 hours’ notice; no-shows or late cancellations incur a 100% fee. Payment for balance accepted via cash or Venmo.

Dakine Canine does not offer group classes at this time but has them coming soon, with a waitlist available. They provide customized training plans for puppies, adolescents, and adult dogs, focusing on basic manners, leash walking, barking, reactivity, and enrichment activities like “find it” and agility introductions. They do not handle cases involving aggression or separation anxiety but offer referrals. Their walking services include 30- or 60-minute walks and drop-in visits for potty breaks and play, available in Kaneohe and Kailua.

Whitney Broekstra is a certified dog trainer through the Victoria Stilwell Academy for Dog Training and Behavior. She holds a BA in Zoology from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, has over 10 years of experience training marine animals in public aquariums, and worked as a veterinary assistant. She is also a Fear Free Certified Professional. Her training philosophy is grounded in science and positive reinforcement, developed through hands-on experience with diverse animals and her own rescue dog, Presley.

Prospective clients must contact Dakine Canine via email, phone, text, or the contact form to schedule an initial consultation. An intake form is available to begin the process. The first step is a 1.5-hour in-home consultation to assess the dog’s behavior, discuss goals, and determine the best training plan. Packages or individual sessions are then scheduled based on the consultation.
