Denali Dog Obedience School offers four levels of dog and puppy training, taught by AKC Certified instructors. Programs include Obedience for the Home, Therapy Dog Training, Trick Dog Training, Tracking, AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy, and AKC Canine Good Citizen Titles.
They utilize the Volhard Motivational Method, a positive reinforcement, building-block approach. Training goals include teaching dogs to come when called, greet people without jumping, stop biting, walk calmly on a leash, ride happily in the car, stay, stop barking, lie quietly during meals, and alert for potty breaks.
The school takes a holistic approach, integrating feeding, exercise, and creating a supportive home environment. Private lessons are offered at their Victor, NY location and are customized to the specific needs of each owner and dog. A fenced area is available for supervised puppy playtime and socialization.

Denali Dog Obedience School has over 45 years of experience providing owner-friendly dog obedience training, emphasizing positive reinforcement for puppies and dogs of all ages and breeds. They are dedicated to improving the bond between owners and their canine companions.
The school offers four levels of dog and puppy training, taught by AKC Certified instructors. They take a holistic approach to training, incorporating feeding, exercise, and creating a home environment that maximizes the dog’s relationship with its family.
Denali Dog Obedience School was the first in the Rochester area to offer the positive motivational Volhard Motivational Method, which uses a building block approach for step-by-step learning. All private lessons are tailored to the individual needs of each owner and their dog.
Currently, due to COVID-19, Denali Dog Obedience School no longer offers group classes at Rush or Walworth training centers. However, Sue Auger, the Owner and Director of Training, continues to teach private lessons at her home in Victor, NY.
They specialize in teaching the importance of positive reinforcement, believing that rewarding good behavior helps dogs unlearn bad habits faster and builds a stronger bond. The facility also includes a large, fenced area for supervised puppy playtime and socialization.
Accomplishments
Denali Dog Obedience School has over 45 years of experience in dog training, having been established in 1975. Sue Auger, the Owner and Director of Training, studied for two and a half years with Joachim (Jack) and Wendy Volhard, pioneers in dog training and care.
Jack Volhard was an AKC Obedience Judge, and Wendy Volhard had extensive knowledge in raw feeding and alternative therapies like homeopathy, herbs, therapeutic massage, and acupuncture. Denali was the first obedience school in the Rochester area to teach the positive motivational Volhard Motivational Method, which has been translated into 17 languages worldwide. The school’s trainers are AKC Certified and AKC Testing Certified, and the business is fully insured.
