Training begins with an initial consultation to assess the dog’s behavior and the owner’s goals. Sessions are conducted one-on-one in the dog’s home or usual environment, with Dennis working directly with the owner, family members, and the dog. Programs are customized and ongoing, with most dogs ready for off-leash training in about five lessons. Training focuses on real-life settings and teaching the dog to make correct choices through clear communication and positive reinforcement.
Testimonials
“All the clients I have referred to Dennis have been very happy with the results and the service he provides. His approach and methods, which avoid overpowering the dog, are ones that I feel comfortable in recommending. I feel confident that the clients I refer with behavioral or training problems will get the results they need.”
– David McKenna, DVM
“Dennis has helped me see things from a dog’s point of view. Veterinarians are not trained specifically in dog behavior. I was just as naive as some of my clients as far as thinking we had to dominate puppies in order to create well-behaved dogs. I try to encourage his ‘let the dog be right’ approach in training and it works!”
– Lori Blackwell, DVM
“Dennis Hill has been a huge success with all of our clients in Britain. We would like him cloned!”
– Keith Butt, MA, VetMB (Cantab), MRCVS
About the Trainer
Dennis Hill is a professional dog trainer and animal behaviorist with over 40 years of experience helping dog owners build trusting, respectful relationships with their pets. His training philosophy avoids dominance, correction, and fear-based methods, instead focusing on the dog’s natural desire to please and clear communication. Dennis provides customized, one-on-one training in the dog’s home or typical environment to address real-life situations like leash pulling, barking, separation anxiety, biting, and housebreaking. He works with puppies, adult dogs, seniors, and special needs dogs—including deaf and blind dogs—and has trained dogs for families, shelters, veterinarians, and international clients. His approach emphasizes teaching dogs to make good choices, strengthening the human-dog bond, and achieving lasting results without overpowering the animal.
Dennis is internationally recognized, featured on PBS’s Dog Sense, recommended by veterinarians worldwide, and has trained dogs across the U.S. and in the UK. He does not offer group classes, boarding, or facility-based training; all sessions are private and in-home. He also provides coaching for companionship and behavior modification, tailoring each program to the individual dog and owner’s goals.
