Dog Training Methodology

Methods:

  • Positive Reinforcement Only

Devotions Dogs offers comprehensive training focused on empowering dog owners. All training includes ongoing support via texting and phone calls for questions that arise between sessions.

Private Sessions are conducted in the client’s home or neighborhood, tailored to specific needs. An assessment is required to understand the dog’s baseline and recommend a suitable training plan.

Therapy Dog Training includes an initial 60-minute assessment for $100, which evaluates the dog’s temperament, friendliness, body language, and listening skills, with no obligation to purchase a plan afterward. The Therapy Dog Puppy Plan is a 20-week program for $2,900, covering standard obedience (potty training, recall, heeling, public training) in the first two months, followed by therapy-specific training (high stimulation, distractions, public interactions) in subsequent months, aiming for Alliance of Therapy Dogs (ATD) certification and AKC Therapy Dog Titles. The Therapy Dog Readiness Plan, priced at $1,300 for 12 weeks, is for dogs already proficient in obedience, focusing directly on therapy-specific training and preparation for ATD testing and AKC titles.

Pre-Adoption Assessments, costing $100, involve an in-home evaluation of the client’s lifestyle to recommend the best breed or mix. This service includes advice on setting up the home for a new pup, a “what to expect” sheet, and a welcome kit. A premium option for an additional $100 provides a single session to help acclimate the new pup to its home.

Testimonials

“We’d tried traditional dog training before but wanted something more personal and customized. Devotion’s “Train the Humans” approach taught us how to work with our dogs to get sustained results. Devotion planned our training sessions around specific issues our dogs were having, such as barking, front door escapes, and meet and greet anxiety. She worked with us in our home, on neighborhood walks, at the dog park, and in busy town centers. Whenever possible, she included our whole family. Devotion is extremely easy to work with in person and by phone or e-mail. She is flexible and understanding when schedules change. Most importantly, Devotion has a real gift for dog training. She is a keen observer and understands why dogs exhibit certain behaviors. Our dogs love her! Devotion’s approach requires the humans to train and practice with their canine companions. You will be expected to spend a significant amount of time with your dog each day until you all learn the lessons. For us, it has been well worth it.”
– The Lewis family

“I highly recommend Devotion for dog/human training! In only 3 short meetings she gave me the tools I needed to help correct some behavioral issues with my new rescue dog. She was encouraging and calm, She easily demonstrated instructions to encourage wanted behavior and avoid unwanted behavior. Her lessons were always positive and reward-filled so my dog quickly learned to trust her. Her pricing is very reasonable and she is very considerate of only giving you the time you need so you don’t pay for extra time that may not be needed. She was very easy to work with and extremely competent.”
– Kim Schultenover

“FIVE STARS ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Devotion was an amazing dog/human trainer. I loved that she came to our home to observe Penny’s (our dog) behavior. Afterwards she created a custom training plan tailored to our specific requests. All the training sessions were in our home/neighborhood. Devotion was also very flexible with regards to scheduling our training sessions. The best part was she took our lifestyle and busy schedule into account when she created the training exercises. I HIGHLY recommend Devotions Dogs for all your dog training needs.”

About the Trainer

Devotions Dogs is a dog training business that focuses on “Training the Humans® to train the dogs.” They believe that empowering dog owners with the knowledge and skills to train their own dogs leads to the best and most consistent long-term results. Their training approach is built around fun games to solidify command response and build a strong relationship between dogs and their humans.

The business exclusively uses positive-only training methods, explicitly stating they do not use pressure collars, prong collars, or E-collars. They emphasize that “Hardware doesn’t replace training.” They offer ongoing support to clients through texting and phone calls for ‘on-the-fly’ questions that arise outside of scheduled sessions.

Devotions Dogs provides private sessions, in-home training, and specialized therapy dog training programs. They also offer pre-adoption assessments to help prospective dog owners find the right pup for their lifestyle before bringing them home. The company is in the process of becoming a non-profit organization to make dog training more accessible to all communities.
