Dog Training Methodology

Methods:

  • Balanced Training

Digman Canine Academy offers comprehensive dog training and behavior modification services, uniquely tailored to each dog and owner’s goals. Their approach builds a relationship of trust and cooperation.

Services include an initial assessment to understand the dog’s temperament and challenges, discuss goals, and select a program. Group classes are weekly for seven weeks, one hour each, with small sizes (up to seven dogs) for one-on-one coaching, focusing on practical obedience and social skills.

Private training consists of seven one-hour lessons at their facility, offering specific goal-oriented training, distraction work, socialization, and off-leash skill building. Private in-home training also includes seven one-hour lessons, conducted in the client’s home or community, focusing on obedience, confidence, and behavior modification with homework.

Sporting dog programs are for beginner to advanced sporting dogs, tailored over eight weekly lessons after an assessment. Stay & Train is an immersive program for significant behavioral issues or faster progress, including aggression, separation anxiety, reactivity, fear, and basic obedience. It includes a two-hour go-home session and a one-hour follow-up. Service and therapy dog training is highly customized based on specific needs and goals.

Testimonials

“Our Dog Sira has struggled with anxiety since we adopted her in 2011. It became worse after we had children. This was mostly because we weren’t able to give her the attention and exercise that she had grown accustomed to before our children. Sira started becoming more difficult to handle in public and could no longer be around children. if we had any company in our home, she would spend that time hiding under our office desk anxiously. In 2014 we sent Sira to Digman Canine Academy for “Board and Train” dog training. In just a couple weeks she returned to us a whole new dog! Claire had helped to recover our dogs confidence and its happiness. She had gained Sira’s respect and trust and taught us how to help Sira cope in difficult situations. Claire worked closely with my husband and I to teach us the necessary elements to handling Sira. She has overcome her fears and is now a wonderful part of our loving family. She is able to walk quietly next to my stroller and enjoy walks by my family’s side. She no longer lashes out around other dogs or children. Thanks to Digman Canine Academy, we no longer have to consider putting her up for adoption or worry about how she will handle herself ever again!”

“Digman Canine Academy has been so wonderful for my dog, Darcy. Claire has taught her all the foundational commands, and Darcy can now heel, sit, and stay with the best of them! It has made me so much more confident and comfortable with my dog. Whether she is out and about or hanging out at home, I know she will be on her best behavior. Claire was patient, yet firm with Darcy, and her behavior improved from the very first week of private training. I’m so happy I chose Digman Canine Academy, and I would highly recommend it to any dog parent”

“We were so excited when we brought home our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel for the first time just over two years ago. It was one of the single best decisions we have made as a married couple. This loving and sweet puppy added so much joy to our lives! It wasn’t very long that we realized that this sweet puppy had become a young dog and had a mind of her own! It’s need to love on others was definitely to a fault. It was hard to see our cute puppy confronting people in the doorway and nearly jumping straight into their laps! For some this was not a problem, but for others this was very uncomfortable for them. This “doorway shuffle” also caused a decent amount of stress to us as a couple. After all, we didn’t want our guests to feel uncomfortable the moment that they stepped into our home. After taking Coraline to Digman Canine Academy for private dog training, we saw a quick and vast improvement in her behavior. Together, we learned the proper ways to discipline and encourage our dog through positive encouragement. We didn’t know that training could be such an enjoyable process! We loved learning the little intricate details that Claire knew about Coraline’s basic needs. After two private training lessons, Coraline was sitting on a designated spot and would wait until she was released verbally from her spot. This behavior made the entrance into our home an enjoyable experience. We continue to get wonderful comments from guests as they notice Coraline staying on her place. We are very thankful for our ongoing dog training with Digman Canine Academy, and would recommend it to any growing family of dog lovers!”

How to Get Started!

The first step is an assessment, which is an opportunity to meet with a trainer. During this session, the trainer will evaluate the dog’s temperament and current behavioral challenges. It is also a time to discuss the owner’s goals and select the most suitable training program for the dog’s needs.
