Dog Training Methodology

Methods:

  • Balanced Training

Dog Obedience Guy offers several training programs designed to address various dog behaviors and training needs. In-Home Training is a primary service, focusing on resolving behavioral issues within the dog’s own environment, as many problems stem from their surroundings and interactions. This approach allows for the creation and implementation of a behavioral remodification plan tailored to the specific dog and owner.

Behavioral Remodification targets common issues such as excessive barking, jumping, counter surfing, digging, and door greeting. The trainer works with the dog in their home, using positive reinforcement and a balanced approach to identify and resolve the root cause of these behaviors. Aggressive Dog Training is also offered, addressing all types of aggression by identifying underlying triggers in the home environment and designing a specific behavioral plan.

For fearful and shy dogs, a specialized approach is used, starting in the home to establish a solid foundation and behavioral plan. This involves positive reinforcement, specific techniques, and desensitizing methods. Additionally, the business provides Board and Train programs, which are 2-week intensive periods where the dog stays with the trainer to learn basic commands like “sit,” “down,” “stay,” “wait,” “come,” and “leave it,” along with leash walking. Upon completion, the trainer teaches the owner how to maintain the training.

Off-Leash Training is another 2-week board-and-train program, specifically for dogs that tend to run off. This program covers all basic commands on and off-leash, plus advanced commands such as “by me,” recall with high-level distractions, and distance commands. After the training, the dog is returned fully trained, and the owner is taught how to transfer the leadership role and maintain the training quality, including how to tap into pack mentality to strengthen their bond.

Testimonials

“Jonathan is an incredibly knowledgeable behavioral trainer. He was able to help me better understand how my dog thinks and gave me the tools to communicate with my dog better than ever before!”
– Dan Olson

“My family had a good laugh when Jonathan asked us if our Boston Terrier could respond to commands like sit or down. We didn’t think Mochi had it in him. But after one session with Jonathan, our puppy was on his way to becoming a model citizen. After three sessions he knows all of the basic commands, walks well on a leash, and is a real asset to the family. We could not have done it without Jonathan and we recommend him highly.”
– Laurel Berry

“Jonathan worked wonders with my family’s 2 lab puppies. They were 8 months old and wild when Jonathan first met them. They were terrible on leashes and didn’t listen at all. They spent 2 weeks with Jonathan and the difference was incredible. They calmly walked on leashes, listened to and followed commands and were overall much calmer. Nothing short of a miracle. Jonathan is a gentle and loving teacher who I’d trust with any fur baby.”
– Jennifer Krulaci
