Dog Training Methodology
Methods:
- ✓ Other
Matt Welch’s training programs are highly individualized, starting with an evaluation to understand the dog’s genetics and instincts. The core method involves unique games developed by Ivan Balabanov, which tap into a dog’s natural drives and build confidence, leading to rock-solid obedience. This approach focuses on making the dog love the training and the activities, creating a shared purpose between dog and owner, rather than relying on food-based manipulation.
He works to channel natural instincts, often perceived as “bad behaviors” like barking or chasing, into constructive activities. The goal is to achieve real obedience with a happy, confident dog, ensuring the training is effective for the owner, not just the trainer. He emphasizes that he personally trains every dog.
About the Trainer
Matt Welch of Dog Training Boca Raton is a professional dog trainer specializing in difficult cases, including aggression and reactivity. He is the only dog trainer in South Florida certified by 2X World IGP Champion Ivan Balabanov. His unique approach focuses on training through specialized games developed by Ivan Balabanov, which tap into a dog’s genetics and innate instincts, building confidence and creating a happy, obedient dog. This method aims to give dogs a purpose and foster a strong, loving partnership with their owners, moving beyond traditional food-based manipulation.
Matt Welch works with dogs that other trainers have failed, including those deemed “untrainable” or scheduled for euthanasia. He emphasizes putting the dog’s emotions first, ensuring the dog loves what they are doing. He offers real-world obedience training that helps with issues like leash pulling, reactivity, jumping, excessive barking, and recall, even around distractions. He also addresses more serious behavior issues like dog and human aggression.
