Testimonials
We have two dogs, River (with general resource guarding, barking and lunging at animals on the TV, and on leash aggression) and Penelope (on and off leash aggression), and after just a session (and then a follow up) with Laurie we saw SO much improvement in their behavior! We had tried so many things to improve but this has by far been the best and fastest and most consistent improvement we have seen. We are able to take them out in public more now than we ever have been. Laurie is so helpful and friendly. So worth the $$$!

Laurie helped me manage my dog Helix’s anxiety and aggression. Before working with Laurie, Helix lunged on runners, bikers, and other dogs while walking on leash. She also showed signs of aggression towards other dogs when stressed or overwhelmed. After a few sessions with Laurie, Helix gets daily compliments on her behavior. She goes on long hikes in moderately crowded areas without any issues. Thanks to Laurie, Helix is now a calm and well-behaved dog.

Great experience with Laurie. She really helped with building confidence with my 1 year old Havanese. She is very knowledgeable and knows how to really connect with your dog. Would recommend her to anyone. It was a pleasure working with her.
About the Trainer
Laurie Yakish is a certified dog trainer based in Colorado Springs who provides personalized, in-home dog training services throughout the Pikes Peak region. She specializes in behavior modification for issues like aggression, separation anxiety, leash reactivity, chewing, barking, fearfulness, and resource guarding. Laurie uses a balanced approach combining rewards and mild corrections, including the use of a rolled-up towel (“bonker”) to create quick, meaningful changes in dog behavior. She trains clients wherever the problem occurs — at home, on walks, at the vet, in the car, or even at Grandma’s house. Laurie has over 20 years of hands-on experience, including mentorship under Gary Wilkes, a pioneer in clicker training, and has successfully transformed severely behaviorally challenged dogs, including deaf and reactive cases. She also supports families with autistic children through dog training as a communication tool and works with local foundations to train service dogs for seizure alert and response. Her approach prioritizes reducing dog stress quickly and building lasting, safe behaviors.
Laurie offers free initial phone consultations and works exclusively in-home, eliminating the need for dogs to adapt to unfamiliar environments. She trains puppies, adolescents, adults, and senior dogs, with a focus on real-world application and owner education to ensure long-term success.
Laurie is certified by the Animal Behavior College, Clicker Training Expo, and John Rogerson Dog Aggression Seminar, and is a former associate-certified behaviorist with the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants. She is frequently recommended by local veterinarians and animal welfare organizations including the Chelsea Hutchison Foundation and Harley’s Hope Foundation.
Accomplishments
Laurie Yakish is certified through the Animal Behavior College, Clicker Training Expo, and John Rogerson Dog Aggression Seminar. She was an associate-certified behaviorist with the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants. She received mentorship from Gary Wilkes, a pioneer in clicker training, and has successfully rehabilitated extreme behavior cases such as a deaf, reactive cattle dog who lived to 14.5 years. She regularly collaborates with the Chelsea Hutchison Foundation and Harley’s Hope Foundation to train service and behavior-modified dogs. Her Sirius Kids’ Connection program helped families with autistic children use dog training to improve communication.
How to Get Started!
