Dog Training Methodology
Methods:
- ✓ Positive Reinforcement Only
Equipment:
- ✓ Obstacle Courses
Doglando offers a “Whole Dog Approach” through three main components: Training, Canine Skill Building, and Enrichment. Training teaches key behavioral responses and skills. Canine Skill Building builds upon learned skills and generalizes them to different scenarios. Enrichment integrates all learning in a rich, robust way, often off-leash and in nature, focusing on decision-making and total wellness.
Puppy training programs include Potty Training & Puppy Development (8-13 weeks) and Pre-K9 Training (14 weeks to 6 months), designed to establish foundational habits and strengthen the bond. Adult Dog Foundations is a 6-week program for dogs 8 months and older, including video lessons and group training sessions. The core offering is the Enrichment Program, a daily experience on their 6-acre campus, structured around exploration, play, rest, and new learning activities, incorporating the “8 Spheres of Enrichment.”

Testimonials
“Before working with Doglando, I owned boxers that were pretty much bananas. I thought that’s just the way dog ownership was; destructive behaviors, separation anxiety, and chasing them around the neighborhood when they got loose. I was exposed to Doglando while in between dogs, and once we decided to get a puppy I knew that she needed to be a Doglando dog. I didn’t struggle at all with Ella, and followed Doglando’s teachings fairly stringently, and now she’s one of the teaching dogs. I’ve tried clicker training, private training lessons, chain-choke collars, pretty much anything that I didn’t view as cruel. Although these tools can be useful, I was unaware of the overall lifestyle and philosophy/ideology of Doglando that gave me a better understanding of what a happy, resilient, confident dog looks like. My time working with Doglando has given me a new perspective on dogs (and other animals), our society, my children and myself. My assumption that things were just “the way things are” is no longer, and my family has benefited as a whole.”
– Jamie Cole
“We have always been dog lovers and have always successfully trained our own dogs. However, when we rescued Abby, we soon realized that she was very challenging, and we had met our match. With Abby we struggled with everything from potty training to anxiety. After months of working with her without much success, we reached out to Doglando. We tried everything that we could think of, even having met with a trainer that came to our house. After several months in Skill Building, and spending a couple of days a week there, she has improved tremendously! We know that, thanks to her tremendous amount of energy and distraction level, we, along with Doglando, will need to continue to work with her some more, but she has improved leaps and bounds since starting at Doglando. She is a joy to have in our lives and Doglando has helped make our time with her even more enjoyable. She LOVES spending time there and immediately gets excited the minute that we turn into the road to the gate. She loves all the areas where she can play in the water and is always very excited to be able to play with other doggie friends. Doglando has been heaven sent!”

About the Trainer
Doglando is a canine enrichment center and working laboratory for dog care professionals, founded on the principle of honoring companion dogs by providing them with freedoms similar to street dogs. They aim to challenge the status quo of the dog daycare industry by offering a purpose-driven, life-giving experience on a 6-acre, nature-rich outdoor campus. Their philosophy focuses on allowing dogs to be dogs, integrating them back into society, and offering nature-rich outdoor spaces where they can feel grounded, connected, and alive.
Doglando’s approach is centered around “Canine Enrichment,” a model of care established in 2003, based on intensive study of dogs’ needs since 1999. This model emphasizes mental, emotional, physical, and intuitive growth through experiences that protect vital and functional behavior patterns. They utilize a “Whole Dog Approach” which integrates Training (teaching skills), Canine Skill Building (generalizing skills), and Enrichment (applying learning in a rich, natural environment with freedom of choice).
The facility provides a structured daily routine with exploration, play, rest, and new learning activities, guided by their “7 Golden Rules of Play” and “Traffic Light System” for dog integration. They serve as advocates first, in service second, and in business third, fostering a culture of open communication, continuous improvement, and a deep commitment to the human-dog relationship. Additional services include a Dog Bus for pick-up/drop-off, weekly baths, and swimming opportunities, all designed to support the dog’s total well-being. Doglando is described as the “World’s First Center for Canine Enrichment.”
Accomplishments
Doglando’s founder and CEO, Teena Patel, holds an MBA, CPDT, and LLA. She has over 20 years of experience in dog training and has intensively studied the needs of dogs since 1999. Teena’s approach is informed by two decades of field research on street dogs and free-roaming dogs in developing countries. Doglando claims to be the “World’s First Center for Canine Enrichment.”
How to Get Started!
The first step to join Doglando’s family is to schedule a tour of their 6-acre campus. Tours are for humans only, typically held at 9:30 am on weekdays (except Thursdays), and last approximately one hour. After the tour, a Meet & Greet Assessment is required for all dogs over 13 weeks of age, which costs $65. Following the assessment, there may be a 2-week waiting period before a dog can begin the PreK9 or Adult Dog Foundations training programs, allowing for acclimatization.
