Testimonials
I highly recommend the 2 week board and train. My friend’s dog went through the training and after seeing the results and hearing about the program, I knew it would be a great fit for my dog. Scott really takes the time to listen about the things you would like your dog to improve on and he explains his methods thoroughly. We got consistent updates throughout the course of the training, but Scott is also very reachable if you need to get in contact. When Scott brought my dog home from training, he gave us an in depth lesson of everything he taught him and helped us learn the training tactics. He has also been following up with me to see how progress is going since my dog returned home which has been great. When my dog returned home, I could tell he was well taken care of and loved while away. My dog was still the happy boy he always is, but now he is way better behaved! I truly think his methods work and although 2 weeks does not guarantee perfection, my dog’s behavior has improved immensely for the better. The fact that he offers follow up lessons and group lessons post board and train is awesome too. He is a great guy that really cares about dogs and I know he will be a resource for life. If your dog needs training, this is the place to go!
– Client
Scott is great to work with and has helped my dog so much! My dog did a 2 week board and train when we lived in Florida but I didn’t get the results I wanted. When I moved to Virginia, I reached out to Scott to help with my dogs leash reactivity and he was able to meet up with me and my dog shortly after to come up with a plan. I noticed results even after the first lesson! 10/10 would recommend training with Scott!
– Client
Scott was so great to work with! I enrolled my 1 year old pup in his 2 week board and train program. In so little time Scott was able to help my dog with his impulse control and off leash recall. In addition to his training, he offers lifetime group classes for all his graduates which has been super helpful and enjoyable for Jax!

About the Trainer
Dogs By Dancer is a dog training business led by Scott Dancer, a trainer with over 12 years of experience serving the DC and DMV area. Scott offers personalized dog training services including in-home private lessons, group classes, and board-and-train programs designed to build obedience, improve behavior, and strengthen the bond between dogs and their owners. His training philosophy centers on “Freedom through Obedience” and “Canine Connection Mastery,” using positive reinforcement and behavior modification techniques to create lasting change. Scott works with dogs of all ages and temperaments—from puppies to seniors—and addresses issues like reactivity, aggression, resource guarding, separation anxiety, and leash pulling. He also provides free follow-up group classes for graduates and maintains ongoing communication with clients after training ends. Scott’s hands-on approach, combined with his background starting from a doggy daycare, gives him deep practical insight into real-world dog behavior.
In-home training allows clients to work in their dog’s familiar environment, ideal for addressing anxiety or aggression. Group classes offer socialization and distraction training in a controlled setting, with free weekly Saturday sessions available to private lesson graduates. The board-and-train program immerses dogs in a structured, daily training routine at Scott’s home for 1–3 weeks, followed by a detailed handoff session to ensure owners can maintain progress. Scott emphasizes that training requires owner participation and consistent practice, but delivers measurable results with compassionate, individualized care.
Accomplishments
Scott has trained thousands of dogs over 12+ years in the DMV area, successfully addressing complex behavioral issues including aggression, reactivity, and resource guarding. He began his career at a doggy daycare and transformed his own dog from fearful to confident, which inspired his career path. His clients consistently report significant behavioral improvements and lasting results.
How to Get Started!
Prospective clients are encouraged to schedule an introduction call or consultation to discuss their dog’s specific needs, lifestyle, and goals. This initial conversation helps Scott determine the best training approach—private, group, or board-and-train—and create a customized plan.
