Dog Training Methodology

Methods:

  • Balanced Training

Dogs in Training Inc. offers several structured programs. The Daycare Boot Camp allows clients to drop off their dog in the morning and pick them up the same day, with multiple training sessions throughout the day focusing on obedience, manners, behavior modification, socialization, or specific issues.

One on One / Puppy Class provides private training sessions tailored for specific issues or for new puppies and their owners needing direction. The Board and Train Programs offer an immersive experience where dogs stay in a home-like atmosphere with a limited number of other dogs, receiving attention and training in mini sessions daily.

The 1-week Board and Train program is designed to resolve many issues and teach basic commands and boundaries. The 2-week program is suitable for more stubborn dogs, mild anxiety, bad habits, behavioral issues, and high-energy canines, including off-premises training in public spaces during the second week. The 3-week program is for dogs with high anxiety, severe nervousness, bite history, or lack of socialization, requiring longer decompression and more intensive training on and off premises. All Board and Train programs include a lesson on pick-up day for owners to continue training at home. Required vaccinations for all services include Bordatella (1 year), Dhpp (1 or 3 year), and Rabies (if over 16 weeks, 1 or 3 year); puppies for Board and Train must be at least 16 weeks and have their Rabies vaccination.

About the Trainer

Dogs in Training Inc., owned by Teresa Harpstrite, is a dog training business dedicated to helping families and their dogs live together seamlessly by teaching owners how to communicate effectively with their pets. Teresa believes that many “bad behaviors” stem from a lack of structure and poor communication, and she aims to teach people how to “speak” dog to strengthen their bond.

Teresa brings over 20 years of experience, having worked extensively with rescues and animal control facilities, fostering thousands of dogs, and rehabilitating challenging cases including “bad dogs,” shy puppy mill dogs, and those needing obedience for adoption. She has also shadowed dog behaviorists, worked with trainers, and previously owned a Doggie Daycare and Boarding business.

The business offers a variety of services including Daycare Boot Camp, private One on One / Puppy Classes, and comprehensive Board and Train programs (1, 2, or 3 weeks). They focus on foundation obedience commands and behavior modification, helping dogs learn to think rather than react, and to trust, respect, and listen to their owners. Dogs in Training Inc. can assist with issues such as anxiety, nervousness, high energy, jumping, nipping, bad manners, and general lack of control, as well as basic habits like loose leash walking.
