Dokken’s Oak Ridge Kennels offers nationally recognized training programs tailored to individual dog’s needs, with one-on-one training for both the dog and owner/family.

Gundog Training includes a 2-week Puppy Program (5+ months old) for bird and gun introduction, focusing on retrieving and positive gun/bird relationships. The Intermediate Program (10 weeks for Retrievers, 12 weeks for Pointers, 8+ months old) establishes on and off-leash control, whistle recall, quartering skills, force fetch, and pointing/whoa commands, with three owner lessons.

Obedience Training for all breeds (7+ months old) includes a 4-week On-Leash Obedience Program covering heel, sit, down, ok, no, and kennel commands, with weekly owner lessons during the last two weeks. An 8-week On and Off-Leash Obedience Program builds upon the 4-week program, adding off-leash control and recall, with weekly owner lessons during the last three weeks. All obedience training is board and train.

Shed Dog Training includes a 2-week Shed Introduction (5+ months old) focusing on introducing dogs to shed antlers and enhancing natural retrieving instincts, without obedience work. The Shed Dog Intermediate Program (12 weeks, 8+ months old, or 6 weeks if Gun Dog Intermediate was completed) establishes on and off-leash control, whistle control, force fetch for shed delivery, and extensive sight and scent training in various conditions. This program includes three owner lessons scheduled after a one-month progress call. Private lessons and special programs for particular performance areas are also available.

Testimonials

“Louie, our 2 year old yellow Lab is our fourth Labrador from Dokken’s Oak Ridge Kennels. Louie has a mischievous personality and like Max, Bo and Bear before him, he is a remarkably smart, loving and very affectionate little dog. Tom and his outstanding staff have helped us in every way from the puppy stage through obedience training to the pure enjoyment of our dear little friends. When Louie turns 3 next year we are considering another “little pup” companion for Louie and, of course, he /she will only come from Dokken’s Oak Ridge Kennels.”
– John & Marianne M.

“Dokkens Kennels not only developed Jagger as an excellent hunting dog but as an enjoyable new family member as well. His outstanding obedience makes him the perfect house pet even when we have guests.”
– Brenda W

“Living in SD and having 2 young children, it was important to us to not only have a hunting dog, but even more so a good family dog! Tom helped us to decide on a breed that would fit both. Our German Shorthair Pointer, Sophie, was trained by Oak Ridge Kennels to point and retrieve birds for hunting and also to be a well-trained house dog. Tom not only trained her, my husband and myself, but also took time to go through rules and training with our kids! It is a lot of fun to go out hunting with Sophie as a family and our kids are loving to learn about the outdoors! Sophie is a very loving and enjoyable part of our family, and we are so happy to have her part of it. Thank you to Tom and Oak Ridge Kennels for Everything!!”
