Training begins with an evaluation to assess the dog’s needs and owner goals. Programs include private lessons, small group lessons, and intensive sessions tailored to specific goals such as obedience, puppy foundation, behavior modification, French Ring, or service dog training. Training is structured around free shaping and play-based learning, with strong emphasis on owner education. Ongoing support is available through continued lessons, and clients are encouraged to reinforce skills at home. Programs are customized per dog, with no one-size-fits-all approach.

About the Trainer

Down Right Dog Training is a holistic dog training business led by Yvan Granados and Kimberlee Ybarra, with over 25 years of combined experience training thousands of dogs of all sizes, breeds, and purposes—including pets, service dogs, and protection dogs. Yvan holds a degree in Veterinary Medicine with a specialization in ethology from UNAM, one of Mexico’s premier universities, and is a twice-certified G.T.R. Level 3 Decoy in French Ring, with international recognition including serving as a juror for the 2023 French Ring Selectifs in France. Their training method emphasizes channeling a dog’s natural instincts through positive, play-based techniques like free shaping, avoiding aversives and cookie-cutter approaches. They prioritize building unbreakable bonds and emotional well-being, tailoring each program to the individual dog and owner’s lifestyle. They offer training for obedience, puppy foundation, behavior modification, French Ring, protection work, agility, and service dog preparation, with a strong focus on owner education.

They train dogs of all ages and types, from small breeds like Chihuahuas to giant breeds like Belgian Malinois and Giant Schnauzers, and work with both pet and high-drive working dogs. Their approach is praised for its empathy, adaptability, and effectiveness in resolving complex issues like reactivity, fear, biting, and resource guarding without suppression. Clients consistently highlight Yvan’s deep understanding of canine behavior and his ability to communicate with dogs in a way that builds trust and confidence.

The business also offers a store for training tools and educational content, and maintains active social media channels with training tips and client updates. They are committed to continuous learning and competition, having successfully trained dogs in multiple dog sports.

They do not offer grooming, boarding, walking, or daycare services, focusing exclusively on training and owner education.
