Dog Training Methodology
Corgis in a Blanket adheres to MSU Veterinary School guidelines for breeding age, with dams whelping at age two and sires breeding at age one. They conduct extensive genetic testing for various health conditions and use ATTS Temperament analysis.
The labor and delivery process is meticulously managed, with temperature charting, monitoring of labor stages, and careful intervention if needed, such as sac removal or umbilical cord clamping based on MSU research. Puppies are weighed and identified with unique collars at birth.
Puppies are born blind, deaf, and toothless, developing eyes and ears between 10-18 days and beginning to walk around four weeks. At four weeks, the dam and puppies are moved to a larger gated area downstairs to expose them to other household dogs. At six weeks, puppies are allowed to roam freely in the house. The period between six and eight weeks is considered critical for emotional development and learning pack order, with humans established as the alpha.
The transition to a forever home involves a rigorous application process. Once a family is approved and a puppy is chosen at four weeks of age, a 50% deposit is required. The breeders then begin preparing the puppies for their new homes, including crate training, potty training, and using the chosen name.

Testimonials
“Corgis in a Blanket is an ethical, hobby breeder that breeds for health and wellness and to better the breed. The process from beginning to end was incredible. They provided updates through the pregnancy, and helped me decide what kind of personality I was looking for in my pup. As a result, Kevin feels like he was born to be in this family. He is the perfect companion for my golden retriever who is his very best friend in the world, and he is a gorgeous specimen true to the AKC standard. I was able to visit multiple times prior to bringing him home, and they did their due diligence to make sure that I would be a suitable home for him which I very much appreciate. They have a return contract so there’s anything happens in my life where I am unable to take care of him, they will gladly take him back. There is no question, that they love Kevin as much as I do.”

“We happened to come across Corgis-in-a-Blanket online when we finally made the decision to adopt a puppy. There was so much information about Corgis on the page that we felt comfortable that were making the right choice. It was so easy to get in touch with Stacey and the application process was quick and easy. We were able to share who we were through the application form and I love that she wanted to FaceTime to meet the family. It helped us figure out which puppy would be the best fit for our home. The time invested in the process showed me that our new puppy was coming from someone who wants the best for their pups as well as their new family. The whole adoption process took a few days, and we were even given the opportunity to meet our little guy in person if we wanted to, before we got to bring him home! He even got to bring a little bit of his home with him in his little care package Stacey sent with us when we picked him up. We got Gizmo and he loves his big sister Schatzi (German Shepherd), wants to play with the 4 cats and he loves our family and neighbors. He has provided us too many laughs to count and his zoomies are the best. His temperament is great, he is healthy and he is the cutest little pup, we could not be happier with our decision to adopt Gizmo. I have even reached out with questions about Gizmo months after the adoption and Stacy got back to me quickly with some great information.”

“In May of 2021 my partner and I got our first corgi from “Corgis in a Blanket” and we could not have had a better experience! From the time we first reached out to inquire about her upcoming litters to the time we got to meet the pups, Stacey was responsive and more than willing to answer our questions. We got to meet the puppies when they were about 5 weeks old, and Stacey let us sit with them and take our time getting to know their personalities so we could find the best fit. We were blown away by how much love and care they put into raising these dogs! We really wanted to find an ethical breeder that would put as much love into our future friend as we would, and we found that and more from “Corgis in a Blanket.” Our pup is the sweetest and most well-adjusted dog we have ever met and is easygoing and loving to every person and animal she meets. We have already recommended “Corgis in a Blanket” to several people and will absolutely be coming back for our next Corgi!”

About the Trainer
Corgis in a Blanket is an ethical, hobby breeder of Pembroke Welsh Corgis, focusing on health, wellness, and betterment of the breed. The business is run by Stacey Marquee-Flentje, a Clinical Psychologist, and her husband, a pediatrician and psychiatrist. They have been breeding dogs for over 11 years.
They adhere to Michigan State University Veterinary School recommendations for breeding age, allowing a dam to whelp her first litter at age two and a sire to breed at age one. They complete extensive genetic testing for conditions such as Degenerative Myelopathy (DM), Von Willebrand Disease (VWD), Exercise Induced Collapse (EIC), Lafora Disease (LD), Pembroke Welsh Corgi Duschenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA), Rod-Cone Dysplasia 3, and Severe Combined Immunodeficiency, X-Linked (SCID). They also utilize the ATTS Temperament analysis measure to assess stability, shyness, aggressiveness, friendliness, and protective instincts.
Puppies are nurtured, cherished, and taught from birth, remaining with the breeder until 8 weeks of age for critical socialization and learning their place within the pack order, with humans established as the pack leader. Every puppy adopted from Corgis in a Blanket includes parental DNA testing, opportunities for litter visits, limited AKC Registration, a 1-year health guarantee for genetic defects, microchipping with lifetime enrollment in the AKC Reunite program, and lifetime support from the breeders. They also have a return contract, requiring owners to return the dog to them if they are unable to keep it for any reason.

How to Get Started!
To begin the adoption process, prospective families are required to read the website, complete an inquiry questionnaire, and submit a narrated video of their home and family. Once these materials are received and preliminarily approved, a phone or video conversation is scheduled for further discussion and clarification. The business maintains a list of interested families organized by the date their questionnaire and video were received. Deposits are not accepted until puppies are four weeks of age, even after family approval. At approximately four weeks old, families can begin the selection process, with the breeders assisting in finding the best fit. Upon selection and receipt of a 50% deposit, the puppies are prepared for their forever homes, including crate training, potty training, and familiarization with their chosen names.
