Feather Point Retrievers offers several training programs:
Basic Obedience: This is an 8-week program suitable for any dog, recommended to start between 6-12 months old, though no dog is too old. It focuses on building a solid foundation for a well-behaved companion dog, including socialization, off-leash commands (Sit, Here, Heel, Down, No, Quiet, Kennel), E-Collar conditioning, and one-on-one handler instruction.
Retriever Training: This includes a tiered approach for gun dogs. The Basic Gun Dog Program (5-6 months) covers on/off-lead obedience, hold/fetch, delivery to hand, sit to whistle, steady, gun fire, retrieving on land and water up to 100 yards, introduction to pile, T-drill, casting, force to water, and proper introduction to live birds, boats, and decoys. The Advanced Gun Dog Training (8-10 months) continues these aspects, adding honoring and working with other dogs, handling on blinds and de-cheated water, senior level blinds up to 100 yards, complex double marks, and pattern blinds transitioning into cold blinds. The Finished Gun Dog program (12+ months) focuses on master level blinds and marks, triple marks, and honoring, aiming for a complete companion gun dog.
Upland Training: This specialized training is offered for all pointing breeds, including pointing labs. They also provide Hunt Test Training for competition dogs to run in AKC/UKC Retriever Hunt Tests and APLA Hunt Tests.
