Feather Ranch Kennels offers various training programs. Their general Dog Training includes obedience for all breeds and specialized hunting training for Retrievers, Spaniels, and Pointing Dogs, using positive reinforcement and corrective feedback.
The Gundog Training program can start as early as 6 months, with most dogs beginning between 7-10 months. It teaches hunting rules, including obedience cues like Here, Sit, Down, Heel, Place, Fetch, Hold, Drop, No, and Kennel. Dogs are collar-conditioned and cross-trained on upland and waterfowl, learning to hunt within shotgun range and retrieve to hand. The program includes over 100 birds shot over the dogs.
The basic Obedience Training program is designed for all breeds and takes approximately 2 months to complete. Dogs learn to heel, sit, stay, come when called, lay down, kennel, and place. Clients are encouraged to visit and participate in the training.
The Owner Training Program is a one-to-one program designed to train the owner. It has benefited individuals training companion dogs, gun dogs, hunt test competitors, and national competitors. The program is based on behavioral principles, with most clients achieving a Gun Dog level in 8-10 lessons (1-2 hours each), and an additional 6 or more lessons for hand signals. The goal is to provide owners with the knowledge and tools to train their dogs independently.

About the Trainer
Feather Ranch Kennels, run by Phil and Debbie Mueller, offers comprehensive dog training programs and related services. They provide training for all dogs, including specialized hunting training for Retrievers, Spaniels, and Pointing Dogs. Their customized training programs utilize positive reinforcement and corrective feedback to guide dogs into proper responses.
Beyond training, Feather Ranch Kennels also breeds and sells Labrador puppies in yellow, black, chocolate, and fox-red colors, emphasizing physically sound dogs with good looks, intelligence, and great temperaments suitable for gun dogs or family companions. They also offer started and trained Labradors at various levels of competence, ranging from young dogs with basic leash work to experienced hunters.
Additionally, the kennel provides a dog leasing program for hunters who need a trained Labrador Retriever for specific periods, including day, month, or season leases. They also facilitate dog adoptions for animals from their breeding program, those that didn’t make it as gun dogs, or older dogs needing new homes. The Owner Training Program is designed to train owners on a one-to-one basis, equipping them with the knowledge and tools to train their own dogs for various purposes, including companion dogs, gun dogs, and competition. They aim to decrease owner dependency by teaching behavioral principles for successful dog training.
Accomplishments
The Owner Training Program has successfully enabled numerous individuals to train their animals as Companion Dogs, Gun Dogs, Hunt Test competitors, and National competitors for Pointing and Retriever stakes.
