Dog Training Methodology
Methods:
- ✓ Positive Reinforcement Only
Five Lakes Dog Training offers three main programs: In-Board Training, Play and Train, and Puppy Pre-School.
In-Board Training is an intensive 10-14 day program where dogs learn two years’ worth of communication skills through motivational training and immersion. The trainer focuses on teaching new skills to replace unwanted behaviors and then instructs owners on how to apply these behaviors at home.
Play and Train is a daily drop-off program where a customized training plan is developed for each dog. It includes field trips, playtime, handouts, and one-on-one instruction, with skills building daily. This training is guaranteed for life, with the trainer offering ongoing support.
Puppy Pre-School is an all-inclusive program designed to help owners navigate puppyhood. Puppies stay with the trainer during the week for the first few weeks/month, returning home on weekends, then stay full-time with owners until 6 months old. The program focuses on crate training, critical socialization, and foundational obedience, with adult training completed at 6-8 months. The behaviors taught and exposure gained are guaranteed to manage future problem behaviors.

About the Trainer
Five Lakes Dog Training is led by Sami, a dedicated dog trainer with 25 years of experience. She has developed a foolproof and stress-free training program designed to improve the quality of life for both dogs and their owners. Sami’s goal is to help dogs and their owners live life to the fullest by providing high-level obedience and clear communication skills.
The business offers In-Board Training, Play and Train, and Puppy Pre-School programs. A unique advantage is Sami’s “train backward” method, which she has used for 26 years to effectively replace unwanted behaviors by focusing on teaching new, appropriate skills. Training takes place in Sami’s home, providing an immersive, real-life environment rather than a kennel setting, which helps dogs generalize behaviors for their own homes.
Sami’s background includes police and protection dog training, and she competes at the World Championship level in Schutzhund/IGP. Her family is also involved in various dog sports, including lure coursing, competition obedience, conformation, nose work, and dock diving, contributing to the dogs’ overall development during training.
