Dog Training Methodology

Methods:

  • Positive Reinforcement Only

G.I K9 offers personalized training through one-on-one sessions and board and train programs. One-on-one sessions are one-hour weekly meetings at various locations depending on client goals. Board and train programs involve the dog boarding with the trainers for the duration of their course.

Courses include: Basic Obedience (2-week board and train) covering sit, lay down, heel, spin, center heel, leash management, introduction to place, stay, recall, and socialization. Behavioral Modification (4-week personalized course) addresses issues like potty training, crate training, barking, howling, whining, food/toy guarding, jumping, reactivity, and separation anxiety. Aggression (6-week course) helps mitigate behaviors such as growling/barking, biting/nipping, and reactivity. Off Leash (4-week course) teaches proper public off-leash behavior and a solid recall. Advanced Obedience (4-week course) follows basic obedience, teaching skills like heeling backward, through the legs, focused heel, and fading the lure. Detection (6-week course) trains dogs for explosive, narcotic, bed bug, and gunshot residue detection. Protection (course length dependent on dog) develops skills like bite work, agility, focus, and targeting. Tracking (3-week course) teaches dogs to search for specific items, people, or animals. Service Certification (no standard timeframe) is designed to ensure the success of service dogs, with a focus on positive impact for veterans and civilians.
