Glacier Dog Training offers a variety of programs designed to build a strong foundation for dogs and handlers, focusing on fun and positive reinforcement. Programs include Trick Dog, S.T.A.R. Puppy, Canine Scentwork, Agility, FIT Dog, Rally, and Canine Good Citizen (CGC).
Trick Dog classes are encouraged as a foundation for all dog sports, teaching dogs to learn without pressure. S.T.A.R. Puppy is a 6-week program for puppies under one year old, covering socialization, training, activity, and responsible ownership, with an optional AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy award. Canine Scentwork is a 6-week Intro class that builds search drive and knowledge, suitable for all dogs including reactive, older, disabled, or inactive dogs.
Agility training involves navigating obstacle courses for fitness and mental exercise. FIT Dog is a 6-week program for strengthening muscles and building stamina. Rally develops teamwork and sharpens obedience skills. The Canine Good Citizen (CGC) program is a two-part course for owners and dogs, focusing on 10 good manners skills, with the CGC title valid with the AKC for life upon passing the test.
About the Trainer
Most people think that dog training is obedience and skills, but Glacier Dog Training has learned that teaching a dog to learn, and then teaching them that learning is fun, is far more important and is the best starting place for all dogs and people. Their main goal is fun for both the dog and the handler, as they believe nobody can learn when they are afraid or stressed.
Glacier Dog Training, founded by Erin Kelly, focuses on building a solid foundation for all dog sports and improving the relationship and trust between dogs and their handlers. They emphasize teaching dogs how to learn and making the learning process fun, starting with trick classes to encourage positive experiences without pressure.
Their training pyramid prioritizes motivation, then confidence, then skills, and finally endurance, believing that skills are not retained or enjoyed without drive and confidence. They aim to help dog/handler teams excel both on and off the competition field, from developing life skills for an enriching life to excelling at national events. They use only positive reinforcement training for real results, animal well-being, and peace of mind.
Accomplishments
Erin Kelly has been involved in dog sports for most of her life. She has competed and titled in obedience, agility, rally, nosework, barnhunt, trailing and locating and trick dog.
