Every dog begins with the foundation program, which is a 30-day intensive program. After this period, approximately 97% of dogs are expected to pattern/hunt to the front, show confidence for the field, point and hold game to a certain extent, and be gun broke. During the course, dogs are exposed to various aspects, landscapes, and objectives as in hunting situations.

The training approach for hunting dogs is the same technique used for developing field competition dogs, with the only difference being the tolerable range from the handler. The trainer uses a “gentle hands” approach for all dogs and breeds. For puppy preparation, owners are advised to socialize their pup, practice basic obedience commands like “here,” “heel,” “no,” and “kennel,” introduce play retrieve (without tug-of-war), and let the pup explore the outdoors with supervision. Owners are specifically advised not to teach the “sit” command.

Pricing Summary

The monthly fee for training includes training, boarding, feed, and parasite management. Bird fees, grooming, and vet bills are not included. The average cost for birds is between $50-$70, with recycled birds used to minimize fees. At the finishing stage of training, when birds are shot for the dog, the bird fee may be $70-$100 per month.

Puppies are priced at $1000 for either male or female, with a required $200 deposit and the balance due at pick-up. Started English Pointer dogs are available for $750 each. Current rates for boarding services are available upon calling the facility. Stud fees are also applicable for breeding services, with the possibility of accepting a pick of the litter puppy instead of a cash fee.

Godfather Gundogs specializes in training and developing bird dogs for both discriminated bird hunters and for campaigning in NSTRA & AKC field trials. They operate on a 95-acre facility located 15 minutes southeast of Southland Mall, bordering Elizabeth Township, Colorado, which is exclusively manicured for bird dog training. The facility features rolling grass prairies, miles of smooth wired fence line, a duck pond, shade trees, shallow hedges, and strategically positioned strips to provide varied cover for upland and waterfowl training.

The property also hosts several coveys of bobwhite quail, some with up to 12 birds, which are often pointed during training sessions. Additionally, they have access to an extra 1400 acres of grassland adjacent to their property. The facility offers “Five-Star” accommodations for boarding, with each boarding space consisting of a spacious outdoor run with an 80% sunscreen canopy, a thermostatic controlled insulated dog house, and direct access to a 4-acre fenced exercise area.

Godfather Gundogs also provides fully guided pheasant, quail, and turkey hunts in North West Kansas, including complete transportation and lodging services in a newly remodeled clubhouse. They are also involved in breeding, raising, and selling puppies and started dogs, focusing on well-bred English Pointers.
