Testimonials

Jim arrived early and made us feel super comfortable with the process. We saw instant progress and truly feel we made the right choice! Our dog specifically needed help with obedience, pulling, and anxiety. He handled every situation and problem as they arose very professionally. Nice kind hearted man who truly cares for you, your dog, and his job. Would highly recommend, and definitely going to call him again if needed!

Jim has worked with us on several occasions as well as friends of mine. I suggest even just one training session to notice a difference. It was like my dog and I were reset to the same page. She was very responsive to him and I learned a lot. Thank you for being amazing, rehabilitating dogs in desperate need, and making everyone’s homes happier !

I personally have not used this trainer, but I was just at a dog park in Sepulveda Basin where this trainer not only was using negative reinforcement to “train” a dog and the owner, but in the midst was insensitive to the other dogs around (mine particularly). He was teaching an owner to yell and scream at the dog when it barked at my dog to play, then when the yelling didn’t work he loudly kicked the metal trash can next to my dog to scare it to stop barking and said “when the yelling doesn’t work, you have to try something else– sorry little aussie!” And my aussie was completely triggered & terrified for the rest of our park day from his “trainer” and his loud aggressive kick to the trash can. What kind of message is that supposed to send to the dog? My dog is extremely fearful and has gone thru extensive positive reinforcement training to be able to be comfortable in dog parks around humans– and today was a HUGE set back for my pup, thanks to a “TRAINER”. Please do NOT hire this guy– everything I overheard him mentioning to his client was completely against everything I’ve learned thru other behavioral trainers who train in a positive manner. I saw him get into his truck with this business name as we were leaving.

I hired the owner/operator, Jim Leske, for a seven week training course, and found him to be bizarre, angry, unable to train my dog, dangerous and worst of all – in my opinion, abusive towards my dog. Here is a verbatim excerpt of the reasons I cited in the email that terminated Leske:

“Sunday, December 20th – When you were unable after 20 minutes to get my dog to assume a “down” position you gruffly grabbed his collar and tried to force his head to the ground whilst you were lumbering over him, provoking him to growl at you. Your anger and frustration at my dog was palpable, and needless to say unprofessional.

Sunday, December 13th – Without warning you approached my dog from a distance, who was sitting politely with me, rushing at him at a brisk walk, almost a run, again towering over him, grabbing his face in your hands and bending over suddenly to put your face dangerously close to his face. You did all of this without warning, without telling me what you were doing, without any advance warning, and my dog came very close to biting you in the face.

These are two separate, consecutive instances in which your irresponsible, unpredictable actions directly caused my dog to be aggressive towards you – in the moments preceding both incidents my dog was quiet, submissive and polite before your provocations. Whether these bizarre actions were caused by general incompetence or by lawsuit-seeking I have no idea, but any rational person would deem you a danger to myself and my dog at this point.”

Unsurprisingly, he makes you pay upfront and then refuses to issue a refund. Luckily his services are so insanely cheap I lost very little money. By his own admission, he has no qualifications to train dogs and has spent most of his life working as a bar/nightclub employee. He has no titled dogs, and in my observation his own dog doesn’t mind him at all.

Also, a word of caution to anyone that contacts him for “riding lessons.” These “lessons” are simply you paying extra to have a weird man who dresses like a zookeeper (he must think it helps his non-existent credibility) accompany you on a rental string. The fact that he calls this “riding lessons” is, in my opinion as a 30 year owner/exhibitor of horses, completely fraudulent.

The best trainer! Jim has trained all of my dogs. I have another one going into training soon. I wouldn’t want anyone else training my dogs.

About the Trainer

Good Dogs are trained is a dog training business operated by Jim Leske, offering dog training services along with dog day care and pet boarding. The business provides training for obedience, leash pulling, anxiety, and other behavioral issues. Jim is described by some clients as kind, professional, and effective, with noticeable progress in dogs’ behavior. However, multiple reviews allege aggressive training methods, including yelling, kicking trash cans, forcibly pushing dogs into positions, and sudden confrontational approaches that triggered fear and aggression. One client reported Jim admitted to having no formal qualifications and a background in bar/nightclub work. The business is also accused of charging upfront with no refunds and offering misleading “riding lessons” on rental strings. Services are offered in Sepulveda Basin and surrounding areas.

Jim Leske is the sole operator and primary trainer. The business does not appear to have certified trainers or formal affiliations. Clients report mixed experiences: some praise results and rapport, while others describe dangerous, unprofessional, and abusive behavior toward dogs. The business offers boarding and day care as additional services.

Due to conflicting reports of abusive practices and lack of credentials, potential clients are strongly cautioned to verify methods and safety before engaging.

How to Get Started!

Prospective clients contact Jim Leske directly to arrange training. No public intake process, evaluation, or consultation is described. Clients report being charged immediately upon engagement without prior assessment.
